Our Mission:
Underhound Railroad was formed in 2009 by a group of friends, with the goal of rescuing innocent dogs from death row in Connecticut shelters.

Underhound Railroad is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) EIN: 47-1531047 volunteer-based animal welfare organization dedicated to rescuing homeless, abused and neglected dogs. Underhound Railroad has now grown to include rescue communities in Maine, Connecticut, Rhode Island, North Carolina, South Carolina and Utah. With our focus on rural areas where shelters are overflowing with abandoned dogs waiting to fi

nd rescue, our network of Underhound volunteers work hard to prevent undeserved deaths, see that medical, emotional and behavioral needs are tended to, and transportation as well as a loving foster family are provided to the pups on their journey to finding their forever homes!

Haley is now accepting adoption applications! 🏠

At 11 years young and just 15 pounds, Haley is a spirited little Chihuahua mix with a heart full of love and more pep in her step than you’d expect! 🐾💛

Don’t let her age fool you. This adventurous gal still loves exploring the world around her. Haley is house trained, well mannered, and has perfected the art of being the best little sidekick. She enjoys gazing out the window to keep watch, curling up in her cozy bed, or better yet, snuggling in her foster dad’s lap while he works. 💤👀💻

She’s the perfect mix of curious and alert when it’s time to play, and cuddly and calm when it’s time to relax.

Haley is currently being fostered in North Carolina and is looking for a loving home where she can enjoy her golden years with comfort, care, and companionship.

Can you believe this little flower is already 8 weeks old? 🌼 From the tiny pup we met just a few weeks ago to the playful baby you see here, Daisy has blossomed beautifully in foster care.

Daisy does have a slight sight impairment, but that doesn’t slow her down one bit! She’s curious, happy, and learning to navigate her world with so much bravery.

Now that she’s healthy, happy, and ready for her next chapter, we’re excited to share that Daisy is officially accepting adoption applications! 🐾

We can’t wait to see all the love this girl will bring into someone’s life. Until then, she’s soaking up cuddles, playtime, and all the puppy naps she deserves. 💛

Adoptable puppy alert! 🌟 Meet Tillie, a 5 month old mixed breed puppy who’s as sweet as she is cute! With her soft, brownish red coat and soulful eyes, Tillie turns heads everywhere she goes but it’s her lovable personality that really wins hearts.

This friendly, curious girl loves everyone she meets! People, dogs, you name it! She’s always up for an adventure, whether it’s exploring the backyard or following her humans around to see what they’re up to.

Chief out here stealing hearts one close up at a time. 🐾❤️

This sweet boy has the biggest heart. He loves his naps, his toys (especially his Kong), and his walks, but most of all he loves being with his people. Chief is equal parts goofball and cuddlebug. He’ll keep you laughing and then happily curl up beside you for a nap.

He’s been waiting patiently for his furever family, and we know once you meet him, he’ll steal your heart too. Chief is available for adoption and ready to be someone’s best friend.

This blonde beauty with lab like features is just 5 months old, but already has a personality as bright as her name! Just look at her frolicking through the grass with the biggest puppy grin. She’s pure joy in motion. 🌿🐾

Shine loves making new friends, tagging along on adventures, and has a gentle, playful nature that makes her an amazing fit for families including those with little kids. 🐶💛 She’s crate trained, fully potty trained, knows basic commands, and thrives with a kind leader to help guide her as she grows into her best self.

Every time we say “yes” to a dog, we’re committing to their safety, care, and a brighter future. Last week we welcomed two more special pups into our rescue family. 🫶

✨ Haley – an 11 year old Chihuahua mix who was heartbreakingly abandoned at one of the vet offices we work with. Don’t let her age fool you, Haley is surprisingly peppy and full of life! 💃🐾

✨ Mike – an 8 month old German Shepherd mix who had been waiting for 3 months at a full shelter. Time was running out, and we knew we had to step in. We’ve already learned he’s a big fan of belly rubs and melts into anyone willing to give them. 🐶❤️

We’re hoping to raise $200 for each dog ($400 total) to help jumpstart their rescue care. This help from medical needs and vaccinations to cozy beds and good food.

💛 Every dollar makes a difference and helps us keep saying “yes” to dogs in need.

Our longtimer handsome boy Ronnie has found his furever home, and we couldn’t be happier! ❤️ His adopter shared:

“He’s doing great. He sleeps in the bed with me, we go for a few walks in the yard every day with my neighbor and her dog (they’re so cute together!). I’ve been practicing leaving him home alone for short spurts and when I come back, he’s just sitting on the couch looking out the window—such a good boy! Everything’s in place with my vet too, so all is well!”

After waiting patiently for his perfect match, Ronnie is finally home where he belongs, snuggled in bed, making new friends, and soaking up all the love. 🐾💙

We cannot believe this little darling deer hasn’t found her furever human yet. 🦌💖 If you’ve been holding out for a playful, loyal, and slightly quirky sidekick, your wait is over. Meet Faline!

This 2 year old, 10lb brown and tan Chihuahua has the long legs of a supermodel, the perky ears of a cartoon character, and the heart of a ride or die best friend. She’s crate trained, has excellent potty manners, and will even use potty pads if needed (but she much prefers to strut her stuff outside).

Faline needs another small, playful dog to wrestle and romp with. It’s her favorite way to come out of her shell. She’s also a top candidate for doggie daycare, where she can mix, mingle, and get her zoomies out.

She’s a sensitive soul who bonds deeply with her people (so deeply she’s been known to jump over baby gates just to be closer 💕). She’d love a home where someone is around more often than not, unless she can hang out with her friends at daycare.

At first she might be a bit shy, but give her a minute and she’ll be your goofy tail-wagging shadow. In return, you’ll get endless love, belly-up snuggles, and a lifetime supply of “aww” moments.

This handsome black Lab Shepherd mix is just a year old, with a shiny black coat and a heart ready to give a lifetime of love. 🖤

Maverick has been overlooked for far too long and sadly, black dogs often get passed by in rescue. We’re hoping to change that! We’ve learned he has a serious love for stuffies. In fact, he recently “borrowed” his foster sister’s Lambchop toy and never looked back. 🐑😂

We’ve put together a wishlist of toys, treats, and a few cozy comforts to spoil this sweet boy while he waits for his furever family.

Introducing our newest rescue, Tillie! 🐾💜 This adorable, sweet girl was growing up in the shelter. With the shelter full and space running out, we knew we had to help.

Tillie is now safe with us, but so many dogs and puppies like her are still waiting. Shelters everywhere are overflowing, and fostering is the lifeline that gives them a chance to leave.

Becoming a foster means opening your home and heart to a dog in need. It’s temporary for you, but life changing for them. ❤️

Rembrandt aka Remi from the Masterpiece puppies has officially found his furever home in North Carolina! As the last of his litter to be adopted, Remi’s wait was worth it. Looking for a dog who will happily share their home with a feline friend? Meet Birdie, a 1 year old mixed breed sweetheart who’s as gentle with cats as she is playful with dogs. 🐶🐱

Birdie’s favorite things?
✨ Hanging out with her cat buddies
✨ Zooming around the yard with her dog friends
✨ Lounging on the couch for snuggles

She’s house & crate trained, walks well on a leash, and loves meeting new people and pets along the way. Birdie can be a little shy at first, but she warms up quickly and her affectionate, goofy personality shines.

She’d do best in a home with at least one other friendly dog to share in the fun. And if you’ve got cats, that’s a bonus in her book!
