We’ve had a few questions about the wildfire smoke and possible cancellations and rest assured, daycare is still open! We’re taking extra precautions to keep tails wagging safely: quick (supervised) potty breaks outside, and all the fun, games, and exercise happening indoors.

No need to leave your pup bored at home. They’ll still get safe exercise, mental stimulation, and plenty of love here! 💛

Happy Thursday Everyone! Right now in Parksville, wildfire smoke levels are at a VERY HIGH health risk.

This means dogs should not be exercised outdoors. Smoke affects pets just like humans, causing coughing, breathing problems, eye irritation, and fatigue.

Protect your dog:
    •    Keep them indoors as much as possible
    •    Skip fetch, runs, and long walks
    •    Provide fresh water and clean air inside
    •    Watch for signs of distress: coughing, laboured breathing, weakness

If your dog shows any breathing difficulty, contact your vet immediately.

🚨 Attention Dog Owners 🚨

We’ve had reports of kennel cough circulating in the area. Kennel cough is a contagious respiratory illness that spreads quickly between dogs, especially in shared spaces.

Common symptoms include:
-Dry, hacking cough (often sounds like a honking sound)
-Retching or bringing up white foam
-Sneezing
-Nasal discharge
-Lethargy
-Loss of appetite
-Mild fever

⚠️ If your dog is showing any cough, even mild, please do not bring them in until they have been symptom-free for at least 10 days. This helps protect all dogs in our care.

There are more reasons to use a life jacket than you might think! 🐾

Life jackets aren’t just for dogs who “can’t swim” here’s why head trainer Alishia’s dogs use them:

💡 Bear is a strong swimmer, but at 11 years old it’s starting to get more difficult. Her life jacket helps support even muscle use and keeps her from straining while swimming.

🐶 Essie is also a strong swimmer, but panics when she first submerges. Her life jacket helps build confidence and keeps her calm so she can enjoy the water.

Here are a few more reasons you might want to consider a life jacket for your dog:
🔹 Swimming in new or unfamiliar lakes—there could be hidden hazards
🔹 Even strong swimmers can get tired, especially in currents
🔹 If you’re on a boat, they need one just like we do, in case of emergency
