These fish have developed various mechanisms to defend themselves against predators or to capture prey. Some of these fish possess venomous spines or barbs that can inject toxins into anyone who comes into contact with them. Others have poisonous flesh that can be harmful if consumed.
One well-known example is the lionfish, which has venomous spines and is considered invasive in some parts of the world. Another example is the pufferfish, also known as fugu in Japanese cuisine. The liver and other parts of certain pufferfish species contain tetrodotoxin, a potent neurotoxin that can be deadly if ingested in high amounts.
