Hi, pet business owners! I’ve got some news to share! 🎉 Forgive the long post but I figure some of you might be going through this (or you will in the future), so reading this may be helpful for you.

The last 9 months I've been immersed with my web designer to do a complete renovation of the website, Six-Figure Pet Business Academy.

Businesses (especially those that have been around for many years) need periodic updating - and sometimes a major transformation - and this website revamp was long overdue!

I love a good makeover and seeing “Before and Afters”, but actually doing the work to get to "After", whether that be a body transformation or home renovation, (and, in this case, a website revamp), often requires lots of energy and long hours.

You have to gear yourself up and be willing to not only a) start the process but b) go through the messy middle and c) complete the thing!

I knew this would be a big undertaking as the site was a huge beast with many pages, but I was up for the challenge and thankfully, so was my web designer.

The website was like an old house that got patched up with temporary fixes (and some band-aids) through the 15 years it's been alive - when what it really needed was a total renovation!

Since it would require lots of hours, I needed to wait until I had some time to take on that big project. The website needed new clothes - and new bones!

Finally I was ready to begin and, 9 months later, it’s finally done.

There's so much more I could say about this process of a major website redesign (IFYKYK) and I may share more about this process in another post, but for now I want to express deep and profound gratitude to my web wizardess, Emma Brownson and her talented web team.

The brand-new site is now live (born after 9 months - the symbolism isn't lost on me!) and the old site is now gone forever (thank goodness).

Dear ones, I've been thinking about those of you affected by the hurricanes. My heart goes out to you.

For those of you who have dysregulated nervous system from the fear and turmoil you have been through (and also those of you who are experiencing stress and fear from family and friends being in the path of the hurricane and even those of you stressed out by from reading or watching the news about it), there are some simple things you can do right now to begin to create some calm in your precious body, mind and spirit.

(Some people think meditation will help when they feel afraid or stressed but personally I've found that meditation doesn't work unless I first calm my body, mind and spirit down a bit before I meditate.)

Here are 3 things I do when my nervous system is jacked up and dysregulated. Maybe they will help you calm your nervous system too:

1. Deep Breathing. (4 seconds inhale, 4 seconds gently hold, 4 seconds exhale).
One of the first things to go when we're feeling very stressed is our breath becomes shallow. Shallow breathing creates even more anxiety because our body reacts to the fact that we may be dying since not enough breath is coming in. I recommend deep breathing as your go-to Step #1 when you're feeling stressed or scared. Deep breathing has far-reaching impact. It's the trifecta for fear and stress! It calms the mind and spirit as well as the body.

2. Sighing.
Sighing can help release tension in the body, especially when you make a noise when you exhale.

3. The Butterfly Hug.
The Butterfly Hug method was developed by Lucina Artigas during her work with the survivors of Hurricane Pauline in Acapulco, Mexico, 1998.

Here's how to do the Butterfly Hug (you can check out You Tube and I've also included a picture of someone doing it in the comments):

Cross your arms over your chest, so that the tip of the middle finger from each hand is placed below the clavicle or the collarbone and the other fingers and hands cover the area that is located under the connection between the collarbone and the shoulder and the collarbone and sternum or breastbone.

Hands and fingers should as vertical as possible so that the fingers point toward the neck and not toward the arms.

Your eyes can be closed, or partially closed, looking toward the tip of your nose.

Next, alternate the movement of your hands, like the flapping wings of a butterfly.

Let your hands move freely. You can breathe slowly and deeply (abdominal breathing), while you observe what is going through your mind and body such as thoughts, images, sounds, odors, feelings, and physical sensation without changing, pushing your thoughts away, or judging.
