Pets & poems House and Pet Sitter. United Kingdom PETS & POEMS OPENING STATEMENT OF INTRODUCTION

Pets & poems is my life-choice and is not a profit orientated business.

As a writer, it allows me to write peacefully and to live a healthy way of life, whilst providing you with 100% peace of mind whilst you are away, knowing that your pet(s) are being loved and cared for and that your house will be returned to you in excellent order. My decision to accept a booking on all occasions is based on the presence of warm mutual respect and equality between myself and the h

ousehold and not on the basis of a transactional arrangement. To date, I have never accepted a booking based on the fact that I am being paid and communication between us is central to achieving these aims. I like to respond promptly and to acknowledge all correspondence, no matter how small or irrelevant it may seem, and a reciprocal curtesy is essential to me, in order to feel comfortable and happy to proceed. If you feel that this is not your way of being, or that your communication differs markedly from my own, then it is best to seek an alternative more conventional/transactional arrangement that will better suit your needs. It is essential that you are entirely happy with my approach, before contacting me to arrange a booking and so please email me to request the full Introduction which will help you to arrive at a decision that is best for you (and for myself) in the long run.

Greetings from the home of the lovely Lunar the dog and Eddie the cat. Two wonderful souls who I will have the pleasure of being with for the next two weeks. Photos to follow, but in the meantime some other lovely souls since I last posted. The cat in the tent is the one that decide to visit me last night when camping the night before my arrival with Lunar and Eddie. It is the resident cat at a huge camp site and remarkably, it decided to camp out at mine! how did it know it was on to a winner and had chosen a house and pet sitter by trade?! She's usually wandering around the grounds and so I thought it would just be a short visit so I didn't worry too much about not being able to make my bed, but it became clear she was going to stay a good while before going on the night prowl and so I had to gently evict her, and she was very miffed! I'd have loved to have had her curled up in a cat-bed beside me, but what could I do with no notice?

Greetings from the home of the gentle giants Ralph and Lauren who I have the pleasure of returning to each summer. Last year their next door neighbour Dora joined them and promptly nipped me on first introduction, but luckily for Dora, I like little dogs who know their own mind and I love to break through to the inner circle, as such souls are very loyal at heart. This year, we all waited to see how I would fare, and were all relieved and happy when by the end of the Introductory hour, she was licking me all over my face and I only had ever so slight trepidation that she may turn half way through. She's been a darling ever since and wants to cuddle and be petted whenever possible. In this photo, you'd think butter wouldn't melt, but I'm sure you'll agree, the saying absolutely holds true for Ralph and Lauren: they are as placid and gentle as they look, lying side by side like two snowy seals!!

Please do click on the first photo to see their loveliness in full. I am now at the home of the gentle furry giants Ralph & Lauren, who I will introduce you to shortly, but first, the photos I intended to share with you yesterday before leaving the beautiful Loki and Tinka. When looking up from my reading, I had the delight of seeing the swishing of a cats tail that looked as if suspended in no-where. I did of course know what was on the other side of the window, but I did my best to pretend I didn't, and to imagine if I just looked up to see this swishing tail coming down from the ceiling. My delight continued when I decided to take my camera and look around the corner to see if I could capture something nice to share and the result is 'a study in Loki and Tinka' which required no skill to capture at all, such is the natural magnificence of cats, and watching them is better than any Tate show could hope to match.

Darling Loki, always near a window, longing for escape, though she'd probably freak out and want in soon enough, as this is her home away from home and they are unfamiliar with their surroundings, but it does mean constant vigilance as they must surely be like mice, in the way they can contort their bodies through small openings and so windows can only be opened by a fraction to make sure they are kept safe.

For those who like poetry, one I would like to share...

The now that never ended.

This morning,
I sat down alone,
or so I thought.

The light held softly
and there it was,
the feeling:
I am a little girl.
Not once.
But now.

Beside me,
my brother sits,
as real as the tea
I sip.
No memory.
Just presence.
No time.
Just us.

We are here.
Folded gently
into this moment,
layered over
the weight of years,
and the tragedies
that followed.

Nothing passed.
Not really.
Just perception
telling stories
of distance.

But we remain,
not as ghosts,
not as grief,
but as truth,
as breath,
as children
still seated
at the table.

And I,
grown up
and growing,
reach inward
and I say: wait

don’t go,
and I eat,
the cold chips
off your plate.

And then
you know,
you’re loved
in the now
that never ended.

Greetings from the home of the delightful Loki and Tinka (Tinka is the Bengali). Although shy at first, they are now waiting outside my bedroom door each morning. Loki is full of tail switching mischief and electric life, and Tinka is a tiny little thing, with wide eyes and a personality all of her own. I catch her sitting or posturing in such lovely ways and I managed to catch such a pose yesterday. Loki dreams of being out of doors and so I have to be very vigilante and if we were in nature and she were my size, I would have been lunch by now.

Rehearsals

We could
stand still
in the body
and not run
or flee the reel
that says motion
means existence.

Time:
the trick, wired
into muscle,
that the body
syncs to myth.

We build it,
yes,
though we
cast ourselves
as seekers,

but could we
stop
if we wanted out
and if
the show
was beautiful?

Even escape
is a line we’d
rehearse.

Perhaps then
just a pause,

to let
the silence
ask its
question.

My penultimate day with lovely Ruby who has been my constant companion for these past ten days or so. We are just about coping with the heat as there is an ample green space across the road with plenty of shaded trees and park benches to watch the world go by and to catch the occasional breeze.

For You (for Kelly & Luke)

For you I’d live a sunless sky
and let the cherry tree lose
its burgundy leaves.
For you I’d let the brook run dry
and not search for its treasures;
I’d leave them for the magpies to find.

For you, I’d live without delight,
and let go of all the lovely lovely light.
For you, I’d let my skin grow cold
so you could be as old as old.

For you I’d let my fingers not touch
so you could love as much as much.
For you, I’d let my heart yearn eternally
so you could sleep through every sleep.

For you, for you to be as ever green
For you to be what’s never been
For you.

Greetings from the home of the lovely Ruby who I have the pleasure of looking after whilst her full time guardian is away. Ruby is a City girl now, but lives in a beautiful area referred to as a village, with lots of lovely walks and independent shops. Here she is taking a break from our usual walk up to a tower on a hill and then back round and up what is referred to as Constitutional Hill, which says it all. She's a joy to be with but when out and about, a lot of vigilance is required, as she will go for pretty much any dog that passes her by, in an act of pre-emptive defence, rather than aggression. Such is the general friendliness however, that we have escaped all scorn, which is quite a feat! Here she is at home with her current favourite toy: Lamb, and in a more meditative grown up moment of contemplation, looking out at the world going by.

In wombs we travel

From timelessness, we emerge.
Stretching into this finite space.
We learn to breathe, leaving our formless state,
To embrace the shock of this existence.

Incubation pods to distant planets,
Or, through the wombs of earth.
Timeless travellers learning to exist,
We root ourselves and enter, birth.

These bends require a decompression,
From timelessness to body, to separation.
Our cries persist as we continue
Through, our navigation.

Agitation grows as the timeless soul yearns,
We long for our completeness, yet tread slowly,
Respecting the conflict of the trilogy; mind, body, soul.
Yes, we could bypass time, but we don’t…

Greetings from the home of darling Ruby, international city girl, who is still recovering from her first road trip abroad for the winter months. She isn't long back and no doubt, her little soul was stretched almost to its limits as for the first time, she howled when her beloved guardian left, after their epic journey together. However, it only took her half an hour before she settled again but it's too early to leave her. As she's a welcome companion, we'd be joined at the hip regardless! She's so photogenic! it was easy to capture this as she just sits in front of the camera with her tongue out looking adorable! she's doing very well in the heat and we managed a short afternoon walk in amongst the shade of the trees across the road from where she lives, as well as an early one up to a tower on a hill and back round and up Constitution Hill - a name that says it all, before it got to warm.

Opening Chord

I know this wordless place;

for where it took me,
I couldn’t call out;

I just had to submit
to its pulse,

that held everything.

A place way beyond
the maternal chord.

I know now
it’s my mother tongue
I’ve learned
to speak
upon the skin.

A song in
the body,
collecting notes
upon the way;

bending chords
in ways only we
can make

until at last
it’s finally tuned;

Almost…

For something
still waits.

It will not sound.

Ah, yes -
it’s the opening chord
still needing a little
time
to perfect…

Greetings from the home of Digby (featured), his companion Deefer, Florence the very shy and elusive cat and Fred, a beautiful ginger feline who tolerates Digby and Deefer admirably. It is my penultimate day and as always I've had a wonderfully relaxing time with them and look forward to the next time. I go on now to Ruby, a red haired cockerpoo who is a city girl and in fact, has become international as she has spent a large part of the winter in warmer climates. I'm sure she went down a storm as she is super cute, though is not that fussed on other dogs. Here's Digby on waking this-morning, who seemed to have a smile on his face as he lay there luxuriously. It's a lovely way to wake up each day, being greeted by these two lovely souls.

So here are the two sleeping beauties Deefer (brown) and Digby, after a warm and restless night, we all managed to get some reasonable sleep but Digby in particular was enjoying a lazy lie in. They are two very gentle and lovely beings and I have the pleasure of being with them for the rest of the week. It always seems to be good weather when I stay and my favourite walk is very near by and so it is great to introduce them to it. After every walk, they know to jump up on their outdoor stools sand wait for their paws to be checked for grass seeds which can become like arrows that embed between them. So far, all is clear and we are all very happy here, including the cats which tolerate them! Deefer and Digby are currently in the garden whilst Florence is eating at the doorstep, so she gets some calm space to fully enjoy her meal. She meows when she is ready to be fed, and I happily respond. Fred the ginger cat is not so timid and is currently lounging outside, opening up one or two eyes every now and again, thinking who knows what about us all. We are all happy in our very differing ways.

The Body Remembers

There’s a place before the breaking,
Where the bones breathed
In their knowing, and
The unfractured self, held shape
Without the weight of its absence.
Time cannot erase it;
Only rearrange.
The body shifts, adapts, and
Bears what it must, but it will seek
To restore its first self.

What was lost was not lost,
Only waiting beneath the skin,
Listening in, for the moment when space
Opens, and a forgotten alignment whispers:
Here. Here you are, again.
And so the body remembers,
Its arch, its weight, its belonging.
The self returns,
Not only to what it was,
But what it can be.

Greetings from the home of the wonderful Digby and Deefer (Photos to follow). I said goodbye to Dolly and Lulu (the ones staring at me intently and adorably in the photos) and then met two new lovely souls. This time, cats: Moth (white) and Mushy Peas (a black one so shy I was never able to take a photo of her!). Moth was my constant companion. They live in a Cathedral City on the Welsh borderlands near Hay on Wye and it was a real visit down memory lane, especially as the cats belonged to my dear friend's daughter, who I've known since I was 22, when I first left my Welsh town and moved there to start anew. I said goodbye to them today and I am delighted to be reunited with Deefer and Digby who are really gentle and loving souls and so I am very content. When it cools down, we'll take a walk, as the sun has returned after the showers and clouds of earlier.
