This is another oppressive bill intended to strip bird ownership from all of us. If we do not speak up, these people will eventually prevent all pet ownership. Write letters, make phone calls and speak up even if you do not live in New York. Remember: it starts in one state and then invariably gets copied by other states. New York Assembly Bill 8327 (A8327) was introduced on May 13 by Assemblymember Linda Rosenthal (D/WF-Manhattan). A8327 amends section 753-f of the general business law to ban all pet bird sales in pet shops by adding birds to the sales ban on dogs, cats, and rabbits.

These photos were provided to me by Tim Lendengen of Norway. His birds have access to a heated shelter but even in winter prefer to perch outdoors-- even when temperatures drop to -10 degrees C (14 degrees F)! I believe the images speak volumes of the cold tolerance of parrots. I am posting the images with Tim's permission because I am constantly asked about this matter, with many referencing the self acclaimed experts on the internet who say that any even a slight drop in temperature will sicken birds. Again I stress: verify the source of the information and do not take the comments of a person with one or a couple of birds as gospel. Rely on the information from the countless truly experienced aviculturists around the globe.
