Sweet Cavalli šŸ’—. Today I worked on him again and he’s doing sooo well! No longer constantly shifting weight back and forth uncomfortably between his back legs, Cavalli is moving nicely and clearly feeling better. The farrier commented a couple of weeks ago on the significant improvement. Even the suspensory ligament on right hind fetlock isn’t dropping as low and looks firmer. Cavalli is a fighter, a survivor. And his wonderful humans are giving him all the tools he needs to be sound. Yes I did do an acuscope session on him today....but I was touched by all the time he wanted to spend afterwards showering me with gratitude. My heart is full today šŸ’—šŸ’—šŸ’—

Handsome Mark! Approaching his 29th birthday, Mark is one of the lucky horses under Lisa and Jerry’s care at New Beginnings Horse Haven Farm. A resident there since he was 20, he’s been slowing down a bit over the past few years, but Lisa noticed that in the last few weeks he wasn’t even trotting over to the fence line for his treats. It’s obvious that he has a weak back and this creates a pull and downward sloping to his sacrum as well. But I also found that the joint where his left femur connects to the pelvic girdle was notably sore and had one of those unexplained moments of simply knowing when we released that restriction. The sensation is magical and Mark gave me a wonderful look that said, ā€˜ahhhhh....thanks!’ His shoulders were also tired from doing an excess of compensation work so he enjoyed work there too followed by an acuscope treatment. It’s an honor to work on this wise Soul and the keeper of Lisa’s heart.

Today I visited with Cavalli again. He is so good during his acuscope treatments (extra hay to nibble!). I’ve gotten awesome feedback from his owners that he’s doing well and feeling great! So delighted in his progress as we plan to continue acuscope sessions. He’s a lucky guy to have landed in this great home. Cavalli has rediscovered a spring in his step despite the damage to his hocks and suspensory and he’s moving around almost like nothing is amiss. I had to remind him that his ā€˜feeling good’ is energy he should put towards healing and not play. I am pretty sure he winked an eye when he responded, ā€˜Okay, I’ll take it easy!’

Meet Gentle Ben. No, not a bear. And while I specialize in equine therapy this fella weighing in at 130lbs is more pony-like than German Shepherd!! We’re working on some neurological issues and today was his second acuscope session. He had overwhelmingly positive response to just his first treatment so we know we’re on the right path. A sweet boy who can clean your entire face in only one puppy kiss! This guy is very loved and a wee bit spoiled. Oh, and his ā€˜doggie bed’ is actually a twin mattress. Nothing less is big enough!!!! Love Ben, love his humans. šŸ’—šŸ’—šŸ’—

Happy 20th birthday to this gaited darling, Bella! And her present is a bodywork session šŸ’•. A couple of summers ago she hit her fetlock on a round pen panel (we think... you know how they just come up with strange abrasions out of nowhere). She developed proud flesh in the healing process which her owner quickly caught and dealt with successfully. There was a tiny bit of residual tightness in her front left forelock from that injury so we were sure to do a bit of myofascial release in that spot and she loved it. Bella is in super shape, more like a young teenager than having entered her second decade. She has no major sore spots or issues.....a testament to the wonderful forever home she has scored. Lucky girl, lovely girl. In a home where she fits, perfectly šŸ’—šŸ’—šŸ’—

This is Cavalli. Isn’t he handsome??? This was my bodywork ā€˜patient’ today. I am purposely not showing you his hocks because it would make you sad. Seeing them made me sad. His story was sad, too. You see, Cavalli was a very successful show jumper. He won. A lot. He gave all. And when his body began to show signs of stress from the sport, instead of giving him a chance to heal or try a less stressful career his hocks were regularly injected. A lot. Thus began the breakdown until even injections didn’t work and actually contributed to the decline. He could no longer perform much less win. And so he was cast aside. Like too many when they can no longer perform. And that is sad. But for Cavalli his story has a good ending. He’s one of the fortunate ones. He has ended up in the hands of the wonderful couple who own New Beginnings Horse Haven Farm. Therefore instead of this being a sad ending, for Cavalli it’s a bright, new beginning. A chance at the retirement he earned. So we’re not going to focus on his horribly deformed, damaged hocks nor his suspensory ligament problem. We’re going to celebrate that he will retire with love, affection, and in an environment that is focused on healing, recovery and comfort. This guy has a lot of life left in him! Luckily he landed softly in the care of the very fine folks that are giving him that chance to live it. We celebrate you, Cavalli! We thank you Jerry & LisašŸ’•šŸ™

Teaching a class today at Tackfully Teamed Riding Academy on how to do the bladder meridian technique for horses. This workshop was part of TTRA’s education day for staff and volunteers. We made our own sunshine this damp, rainy day. And evidently we did a good job working on these three horses who all played & rolled in the mud after their sessions

This is Lily. She is very sweet! Lily is getting her acuscope treatment following her myofascial release session. Lily is receiving today’s bodywork session as a thank you for her heart-filled work and dedication as a therapeutic riding horse at at Tackfully Teamed Riding Academy. It was my pleasure and honor to work with her. Hope you enjoyed your day, Lily! You earned it!!šŸ’•šŸ’—šŸ’•

Really excited to be sending off this order of Lymes Defense and custom herb blends several states away. The herd of four horses it’s going to were just seen by the veterinarian a few days ago. During that visit the horses showed no reactions to Lymes points for the first time since starting the Lymes Defense remedy about five weeks ago! Even without veterinarian confirmation, the owner noticed dramatic improvements to each of her horse’s health within days of starting the herbs. As for the custom blends, I am most fortunate that the owner and I have a mutual friend who lives near the horses and can relay in TCM terms the issues with the horses who need extra help. This information has been critical to coming up with just the right blends. Feeling so grateful and humble to be part of helping these horses šŸ’•

This is Ace’s monthly acuscope session from a few days ago. Some of you may know him from a prior post (since I get to see him often). But just to recap, Ace was diagnosed with ringbone in his front feet just over a year ago. He was not given a very optimistic prognosis. But he’s one of the lucky ones who’s owner is willing to do whatever possible to keep him comfortable. A diet change, custom herb blend, and acuscope maintenance later he’s not only comfortable- he’s thriving! And much to his owner’s delight, it’s even keeping him sound for light trail riding too! So we’ll keep doing what’s working šŸ’•. And yes, I’m working on his back legs too as seen here! Whole-horse approach 🐓

Now I’m pretty tall at 5’10ā€. But I’m standing on my tippy toes to barely peek over Faith’s back!!! What a beautiful black Percheron mare; I just love drafts and the picture doesn’t do her any justice being so up close. Faith has a bump on the cannon bone of her rear right leg. One of those ā€˜how did this happen?’ kind of injuries. The weather kept us from pinning down and appointment two weeks ago so in the meantime she found herself a nasty gash on the front left leg!! Besides the initial veterinary care Faith received, we’re using the acuscope to help her body help heal itself by restoring blood flow and reducing inflammation. By the end of yesterday’s session the gash started to drain, too! She’ll have a couple more sessions so I’ll have updates on her progress.

Meet Tater! Tater is a big, inquisitive, playful (sometimes naughty!) quarter horse. He’s got loads of personality! But oh, when he has an ache he is a big BIG we**ie! I’ll cut him some slack today as he has a pretty sizable knot in his back muscle to the left of his spine and just in front of the hip. I’m pretty sure that was giving him a fit. Worked it loose and now he can go back to his 100% normal into everything self! šŸ’•

Super busy these few days! I thought I’d use the rainy day on Sunday to re-stock some of my herb remedies. Good thing I did! I ended up needing to fill 6 orders that popped up that afternoon and Monday which included some of my standard blends and three custom blends - whew! After it was all said and done, I have no more ready stock on hand than before I started mixing....not a bad thing, haha! 🌿 Some lucky duck horses (and some puppers too!) have goodie bags on the way. 🐓🐶

Spent yesterday afternoon at Twin Springs Farm doing acuscope sessions with Winslow, Remi and Chester. Each of these handsome fellows has previously enjoyed myofascial release sessions as well. And Chester just finished up his goodie bag of herbal detox. During an acuscope-only treatment, usually horses munch on hay or snooze during a session. But yesterday was Chester’s first time with the acuscope and he just wanted to eat the electrode cords....kept me extra busy šŸ˜‰ Hey, all three of these boys are feeling good today! Who else would like to gift their wonderful horse with a bodywork session?

31/08/2018

Yesterday was a full myofascial release and acuscope session with NoDase at Tackfully Teamed Riding Academy, my favorite non profit organization! NoDase (pronounced No-DAH-see) is an amazing therapy horse- she does her job very well. She enjoyed her bodywork session and we worked out several kinks. We hit a snag on her superficial gluteal muscle, though. This muscle runs along the middle of the rump attaching at the femur and you can see a distinct outline on her of this muscle. Not sure how it got so tight, but definitely from her past before being a therapy horse. She really wanted to allow me to work on it but even the lightest touch was hard for her. So when this happens I usually try working other muscles around it - which is what we did. I instead shifted focus on her psoas muscles, the only part of which I can reach is the attachment point on the inside of the femur. The rest of these muscles are deep within the body originating/attaching to the underside of the illiac wings (hip bones) and the last four ribs. See how I'm resting my arm along the last four ribs and hip? That's on purpose to help release the psoas from 'outside' while I work the attachment point on the inside of the femur. Lots of releases here and it allowed us to then go back and work on the gluteal muscles a little more. Yay NoDase!!
