Pay attention - no off the lead walks at this time

Pay attention - no off the lead walks at this time

Lockdown dog walkers - remember to have your dog on a lead!

Veterinarians are concerned there are loads of dogs out there not being walked on leads. No leads increases the risk of dog fights and reduced physical distancing when people have to pull their dogs apart!

We need to apply the principles of physical distancing to our furry friends – this means walking on lead/harness for the foreseeable future. We know this will be a challenge for those of you with the more exuberant canines!

Remember - all activities need to be compliant with current Govt restrictions - so no driving to beaches/dog parks for Dog Park TV.

For those of you who are spending more time at home, here is a great piece on how to make it through lockdown: http://ow.ly/ayFR50yX9td

23/03/2020

Given the current requirements of business closure within 48 hours as announced today by the Government, PetPalz will stop all services from tomorrow Tuesday 24 March for a period of 4 weeks.
This includes the Easter period.

We are not closing, we are not classified as an essential service.

We are suspending our business operation till the way forward becomes clearer in these uncertain times.
Thank you for your continuing support, and may I wish you, your family and your furry ones all the best in these challenging times.

Controlling cats in Lower Hutt

Hutt City Council is investigating whether there is a need for extra controls on cats, which can take a toll on native birds and skinks. There are five potential options. It wants the views of cat owners and non-cat owners. Take the survey

ATTENTION ALL PET OWNERS

Tonight is Guy Fawkes, so please take extra care of your animals.

SPCA’s around New Zealand receive dozens of calls about fireworks involving animal injuries, frightened animals, missing pets, and occasionally, animal abuse.
We advise those planning to set off fireworks in their backyards to speak to their neighbours, or leave a note in their letterbox, so that those in the neighbourhood with pets can prepare accordingly.

See our top tips for animals and Guy Fawkes here: https://www.spca.nz/news-and-events/news-article/guy-fawkes

HOW MUCH FOOD SHOULD I LEAVE OUT FOR MY CAT WHEN I GO ON VACATION

Important advice when going on holiday re your cats needs

Cats are often stereotyped as "independent" and some people adopt cats because "they can take care of themselves." This just isn't true. They depend on us to for food, shelter, medical care and love. Oftentimes, people will say that they are going on vacation and leaving their cat(s) at home with "p...

Off they go onto public transport, with conditions, will you be taking your pet for a ride?

From today, pets are allowed to travel on public transport in Wellington, and they don't need a ticket. There are rules however around this. Below are the rules listed on the Metlink website: Your pet needs to be inside a suitable pet carrier - not just a bag. The carrier can be stored in the…

Wait till it cools down!

Following on from our earlier post about water bowl temps, I am astounded to see people waking their dogs during the hottest times of the day in this weather! I couldn't walk barefoot on my driveway earlier without burning my feet. Out of interest, I got the thermometer out again (after putting my flip flops on).........it is currently 49deg on the concrete! This time yesterday I left the house and the tarmac was melting and stuck to said flip flops. Not 5 minutes later I saw 2 people walking their dogs on the footpath. Please, just try the footpath barefoot yourself before making your dogs walk on it!

(Jusr fyi....right hand temp not left 😉)

Dogs rejoice in Wainui and areas close by

Good news for boisterous pups!

We have purchased land in Wainuiomata to create a large, fenced, adventure dog park.

Over the next 6-8 months fencing will go up to create two separate areas for small and large dogs. Following this, over the next two years, we will develop the area into an adventure dog park with agility equipment for enthusiastic and energetic dogs, seating and information boards.
