I MUST share with you one of the "Happy Ending" stories that was made possible because of Coalition for Pets and Public Safety. She is indeed a "Lucky Dog"!
My Name is Dolce
It's like the Italian for "Dolce Vita" and that is my name now, but until a few weeks ago, I was a throwaway dog with no life or name at all.
I was all alone, frightened and starving because I was left behind to fend for myself on the streets of Los Angeles. One day I wondered into a dark alley to scrounge for food when a big white truck picked me up. They put me in the back with a bunch of other sad, little dogs and took us to a big concrete building (I think it is called a "shelter")where there were lots of barking dogs and puppies who all seemed so lonely and afraid.
I was put in a cage and happy to get a dish of food and a bowl of water, but I was really, really scared. And I sure hoped I wasn't going to have puppies again. I am only about three years old and in my young life, I have already had so many puppies.
I heard someone say that I was unlikely to find a home. If no one came for me tomorrow, I would be "put down".
My time was almost up when I saw the face of a beautiful girl. She looked like an angel. She said "Hi, little pup. My name is Mary Christina". It was the nicest voice I have ever heard.
A worker at the shelter who felt sorry for me, begged her to take me home because today was my last day to be alive.
Mary Christina wasn't so sure. She said she was looking for a small "toy" dog that she could carry around in a cute little carrier like a fashion accessory! But Mary Christina had fallen in love with me....and I felt the same way.
The lady at the shelter had an answer. She told us about the Coalition for Pets and Public Safety. They would send me to a place called "Spay 4 LA" where a doctor would see me and I would get spayed and never have any more puppies. It was a nice, clean facility and best of all I DID get spayed.
No more unwanted puppies---EVER!
Now I have a loving home, toys to play with, a safe backyard where I can run and I even get special doggie treats. At last, I will have my first GREAT holiday!
Every day 500 animals enter Los Angeles shelters because they are unwanted.
Spay and neuter is the only answer to make sure all our animal friends have good homes.
