Fridays walk 1. Back to the wild fields, Kebab is just too excited on first walk to also cope with new areas, so we'll stick to what we know for now. I'll take her to new areas alone and get her used to them first, before trying with the crews, hopefully that will work better.
Dogs at the top of the main path meant I left leads on Orla, just in case, though we didn't bump into them in the end. We mooched through a cut out to avoid getting to close to them, entering an area I usually avoid as it's got exciting smells, but the sight of the dogs would have been just as exciting to Kebab, and they'd have worried Orla so it was the best of the bad choices. We slowly made our way to the paths and more regularly walked ground, Kebab connected but too excited, Nala hunting but not roaming far, Orla remembering to check in when she mooched away from the crew, and Murphy just happy to mooch about near us, joining the girls when they were near. They all found that amazing smell Orla rolled in the other day, everyone but Nala having a turn, as she's just not a roller. The exciting bush was as exciting as usual, and we paused while I dealt with Kebab. Nala roamed off towards wildlife pond, while Orla and Murphy stayed close, joining chase the sausage and a good snuffle. Back down the path, kebab having a zoom, the poos thinking of joining but the lead and sp*ed putting them off in such an enclosed space. We let her get some loon out and she settled quite well, actually sniffing some p*e mail as we got to the main path. All on lead, Kebab and Nala trying for a bounce, but Nala stopped when asked and Kebab copied her. Silly dogs, they had all walk to bounce. Down the path, no one around, all walking nicely on lead now the two pods had decided to be sensible, good dogs

Fridays walk 2, minus Carlos who wasn't feeling well. Poor Clyde doesn't seem 100% either and has been off his food, though he was very eager to snuffle up all the chicken I was dropping to calm the loon, so it can't be that bad. We went to my local, as we had josh to pick up who's just down the road to me, and it saved a long journey with Kebab on his lap. A man and his dogs were sitting up on the slope, so we took the lower edge, not a great place to walk as I know cats hide in there, ramping up that excitement in my eejit. Georgous just happily mooched, following his nose along the hedge line, while Clyde mooched with us humans to start, and I dealt with Kebab. Up the hill and into the trees, not the best choice but the field edge would have been just as exciting, everything is exciting to Kebab 🙈 Clyde has perked up after a poo, and joined Georgous more with the sniffs, and was always straight in when I tossed down. He even felt lively enough to woof at me in play, while I was silly for a minute, by half time, which was good to see. As we went Kebab got squeakier and squeakier, but it was too late to turn back so I picked her up to get the last few metres to the woods exit. I really need a better solution, as I don't need to resort to it when it's just us, I can turn back or stop for as long as we need, but that's not suitable with others to think of and time limits I can't bend much. I'll figure it out, I just have to pretend she's a customers dog and not mine and the ideas will come. Other than my eejit it was a lovely walk, how could it not be with two good boys and my lovely friend with me

Fridays walk 3. Not many of you will remember my wonderful old assistant Josh, who moved to Peru a couple of years ago, but he's back visiting for a couple of weeks and that meant he could join me for walks, like old times ❤ Pip immediately took to him, bounding back to him by choice, over me quite a lot, so he got sausage to reward her too. Pip can be a little anxious around new humans, but as usual Josh didn't count and she thought he was awesome, just like it always was with him and dogs. We mooched the marshes today, Pip connected throughout, so much I almost braved suggesting we let go, but it's too open here, not enough dead ends to stop roaming, and our recall isn't solid enough yet. Dolly was as usual more distracted at the start but by the end was returning by her own choice, not just to copy her sister. We had to deal with a horse coming into the field and the idiot on top deciding to trot right by us, a whole field totally ignored. The girls were superb, they watched the horse calmly and quietly while they were a nice distance away, and both got their noses down snuffling as it went by, because we will be polite even if others aren't. We set off again once there was distance, the girls not interested in the horse at all, nose back down checking the sniffs, all the way back to the van. It was a lovely walk and Pip is getting close to trailing that line, so I need to find some places there's some enclosure, like the cow fields I use in Laindon, so time to go exploring with Kebab and see if there suitable places near by

Thursdays walk 1. Hobo wanted to go the other way today, up the hill, and I guessed why, he wanted to munch the grass we found yesterday. It actually worked out quite well, Kebab is just very excited about being on the first walk, no matter who she's with, so it gave us a good pause and she snuffled in the weeds and munched some grass with her mate, settling her somewhat before we set off. We mooched up the hill on the green, following Hobos nose, Kebab getting more and more excited. We stopped for a treat tree to try and calm the loon, then off we set again, sticking to Hobos pace and route. We did okay, Kebab wasn't so over stimulated she couldn't cope with the odd passing dog, but only just. We paused at a corner, Kebab hitting squeak mode, smelling cat, but we managed to get to a place where she was pausing, standing with her mate who was happily just taking in the world, unbothered by the eejit and her energy. We turned back, helping Kebab settle back into a less squeaky eejit, mooching down the road instead of the green for different sniffs. Just as we hit the crossing Kebab spotted a squirrel, she paused but I didn't get there in time with a reward and she lunged forward. I picked her up, rather than dragging her away to make distance, and we crossed the road, Hobo fascinated with this dog in my arms but listening to my hand signal when I asked him to back off so I could put her down. We stopped, letting her watch where the squirrel had gone, up a tree, and run round getting out that frustrated energy until she managed to settle to a stand with her ever calm friend. We headed home, stopping for another munch of the nice grass for Hobo and a calming snuffle for Kebab before practicing crossing the road a few times to help get some focus back from the loon, and because Hobos nose led us that way

Thursdays walk 2. The bulls together again 😁 rahni at her bouncy best and Reggie in full sniff mode today. Rahni tried for a game, but Reg said no, turning his head away, so I stopped her, letting him move away. She got the idea more quickly today, only needing the pause to read the room and join Reggie sniffing instead. She tried a few time throughout the walk, but listened each time to Reggies no without needing any more help from me. We mooched the edge round to the main exit, leaving for a little mooch on the road, looping round a little estate to make it back to the main entrance. It was mainly to give them some new sniffs as we've done the park a few times now, but it was also some nice road practice. Reggie pulled a bit, while Rahni excelled at loose lead, but Reggie stopped to sniff more than her, so they both had good points. Back into the park, spotting a lab and sausage, who circled one way while we did the other, giving ample room for everyone. It's lovely when other humans get to, I seem to be getting a lot aiming at me at the moment, due to the places I'm having to walk. We had some lovely recall practice too, something I'm working hard on with these two as I need listening ears on at least one of them during play before I add Kebab into the mix, then if two come, as Kebab does recall in play, the other will follow without much trouble and all will learn. How I long for the easy days of having the original billericay crew, who taught all the new ones to come no matter what was happening, now I've too many new ones and not enough that know the rules 😁 still, I got there with the originals learning as a group, so I'll get there with this lot. Back we mooched, both waiting nicely while I swapped leads about, Reggie only trying to eat my face once, like many staffies he's dangerously licky if you bend too close 😁 back down the road to the van, pulling a bit but waiting and listening nicely when we crossed the road

Thursdays walk 3. Skye came out, got to the van where I tossed some chicken whole I got Jess and she'd turned tail, not even finishing the chicken. I gave it s bloody good go but she said no, so we've decided to split her and Jess as I think she just wants it to all be about her, which is impossible with two. It's a shame for Jess but I can take her places we can meet dogs and I'll put out a request for any oldies needing a little walk with friends, see if I can find her a mate. We did the big loop today, down to the lake, her little legs managing very well. We met a few dogs, including a lovely elderly yorkie, who shared a sniff or two before Jess wanted to move on. Down to the lake, lured by the fishermen and all the food smells I think. Just as we got to the end of the lake she spotted a couple of rats and had a little run at them, still a terrier at heart, even of she's no chance of catching one. Back up the hill no bother today, even after her dash at the arts, she's impressively fit for an over weight 16 year old dog

Wednesdays walk 1. Why oh why did I decide to go somewhere new, it had been going so well. Orla and Murphy were actually wonderful, they mooched together, following their noses over the field, roaming, but never too far. They shared sniffs all walk, mooching back to me often to join in the endless searches I was doing for Kebab. Unfortunately Kebab smelt the most exciting thing as soon as we entered the field, and the smells didn't stop. She was a squeaking mess and I ended up carrying her at one point just so we could move forward and my curly mates could sniff new smells. I even said I'd swap her for Orla at one point, it was that bad 😂 lots of deep breaths, lots of rewards quietly place on the floor for connection and calm and by the time we turned round we were getting somewhere. It took the whole walk and I wouldn't say calm actually descend but she became manageable and that had to do. At least my curly mates had been angels all walk, and had really enjoyed all the new sniffs

Wednesdays walk 2. I suggested we walk the other way today, as I'm certainly bored of the green, but they both said no, leading me onto the field, so fair enough. We mooched the path down to where a lad was practicing football with his coach, Kebab wanting to shout at him at first, but settling enough with rewards for wanted behaviours. We veered into the field as we neared them, following their noses across to the shops side. Dogs and people meant a pause at a treat tree, two men sitting on the benches interested enough to come and ask what they were doing, but the dogs were so occupied they didn't notice. Once it was a bit quieter we crossed to the shops, stopping for a little snuffle on the stairs at Hobos request, even thoughts we'd just done treat tree. We mooched up past the shops, practising ignoring and moving round humans as we went. Past the shops, checking the sniffs Kebab finally with her nose down a bit, though that was partly looking for cats in holes in the hedge. We mooched down a little alley towards home, finding some of that grass Hobo enjoys, stopping for a good munch, Kebab actually joining in a bit. Down the hill crossing the road when their noses led us there. It's a nice quiet road and I just add the cue word cross each time. It's good practice because it flows, no need for much of a pause, or any, which is good for these two who get frustrated waiting then charge across at full sp*ed. This way you can build the pauses in and make them bigger gradually, rather than having to wait for cars, and they'll learn to cross without running, Hobo already has somewhat as we've been practicing for longer. It was a nice walk despite Kebab being a bit over stimulated from walk 1, by the end she'd picked up Hobos energy enough to at least stop reacting at the world

Wednesdays walk 3. Two bulls in china shops 😁 Reggie was actually quite chill today, preferring to sniff over bouncing. I couldn't work out if he wanted to play on the first bounce, but when I moved Rahni away he didn't try to play back, a clear sign he wasn't interested, more coerced into it. That's the problem with bulls, the general request is usually a bit pushy, and the physical play makes it hard to read how everyone feels, especially if they're nos are more of an 'oh all right then', like Reggies and Kebabs is. It took Rahni a couple of goes to get the hint, me stopping her getting to Reggie as she bounced towards him, plus a few bits of sausage to sniff out to help calm, but we got there and she joined his sniffs instead. I love the dynamics of a group, or even a pair, and it was Reggie who led this walk, Rahni wanting to sniff his sniffs most the time. We managed a whole circuit today without Georgous to slow us down, but they were more lively, especially Rahni, without a steady influence. She's also without her household at the moment, so her usually lively home is just dad while everyone else enjoys a holiday, so it's understandable she's extra bouncy with me. They did decide on a game right at the end, just as I'd put street leads on, by the exit, so I had to shut it down, it wasn't safe to let them go and definitely not safe to hold on to those huge bouncing lumps on short leads. They did very well at listening, especially Rahni who came and sat in front of me at my whoas, good girl. Back to the van, both walking nicely together down the street, even if they were a bit pully as we got to interesting sniffs

My pop in with Skye. I think she thought I'd said let's go to the pub, not let's go for a walk, as she led me to Wetherspoon today 😁 she actually would have kept going past the pub, but I felt that was far enough with an uphill return journey to do. We flopped in front of the doors, but not in the way and got fuss from several humans. She didn't really want to leave but we had very much run out of time, as I'd spent time in the garden and garage with her before she decided to come out, plus it was getting hot as we weren't in the shade. We mooched back no bother, which I was pleased to see, I hadn't wanted to push her too far, better to do too little than too much and put her off coming out again. It was so lovely to be mooching with my beautiful friend and see her happy grin

Tuesdays walk 1. Such a lovely walk with this crew today, Murphy has relaxed around Archie again, and was a happy little chap today. An awkward start, neither Kebab or Archie listening when they tried to play with all on lead, on the main path, with a van coming our way. I ended up picking Kebab up and saying no a bit too firmly, worried about the van. I hadn't needed to worry in the end, as I looked up lovely Liz was grinning at me, she'd definitely have waited but never mind. We untangle ourselves, shook it off and set off down the path. Into the fields where they could zoom, Kebab half focused on the bushes but Archie kept up and kept enough of her focus they had a proper game. Murphy braved joining in at the end, me giving him a few minutes before I called them in, before he potentially got tense. Off we mooched, Orla finding an excellent invisible smell to roll in, she was going at it for ages so it must have been good 😁 we did well as a team until we got the cross roads and that usually exciting bush. Kebab got squeaky and Archie thought she was playing and had to be removed to stop him bouncing on her. Not that she was overly bothered, but that's not the point, many dogs would consider that very rude, being jumped on while they're focused on other things, so I moved him away and he had a snuffle with his curly mates while I reeled in the eejit and got her snuffling too. We had slow but good progress though the field, shouty dogs doing their thing but Archie and Kebab did well, Archie following his sensible curly friends example, while Kebab needed rewards for not shouting back. Just as we turned down the path there was a bang from the work site, it made Archie jump, then woof in worry. Of course silly Orla joined in so I tossed down for her, going over to Archie to reassure him. We had a little snuffle all round then I suggested we go see what made the noise, which was just a man doing work things, difficult to see as he was in the shadows. We slowly made our way closer, giving Archie choice on whether to go forwards or move away, while tossing down more for the others so Orla didn't woo again and everyone was occupied while I was focused. The man moved into the light, just doing his thing, and Archie settled, seeing it was nothing to worry about, watching calmly for a bit before we joined the others to help finish the snuffle. Brave lad. It's always good to not rush away from a negative experience, if it possible and the dog is happy, a few minutes creating a more positive outcome is so helpful in building confidence. Down the path we went, everyone walking together wonderfully, loose leads all round. Lovely stuff

Tuesdays walk 2. We had a nice mooch at the shops today as the area was quite empty. First we needed to calm Kebab who was zooming with happiness at seeing Hobo. Cute but not appropriate in the middle of a, luckily quiet road 🙈 we headed to the drain for a proprioceptive snuffle before heading to the green. There was a bit of too and fro, both going in different directions a few times, Hobo aiming down the path, Kebab into the green, then they swapped. I just stood there and eventually they both decided on the green and off we went. Hobo actually follows Kebab quite a lot, she seem to be a cool kid, like Dylan, though I don't know why, she's a goofy eejit. We mooched about, checking out a abandoned cone and following their noses up to the crossing. A dog was just coming our way so I led them to a tree for a search up that while the dog went, then we could cross into the shops. They mooched about, checking the smells and trying to break into several establishments, stopping for a snuffle on the steps, and waiting nicely while I said hello to an old friend. We mooched up past the shops to the little green areas, but I turned us back rather than doing the circuit, as there wasn't quite enough time. Back we went, doing an excellent job of listening and waiting to let people by, stopping at the estate agents for a nice drink before heading home
