Rhaegar The Yorkie goes to Mt. Pinatubo ❤️🎉🌋
We booked our tour and rooms with Alvin and Angie (https://www.facebook.com/share/15ouPi24f8/?mibextid=wwXIfr) no extra fee for pets, just be responsible pet furents.
It was a 1.5-2hrs 4x4 ride from the homestay until the trekking jump off point then a 3km hike each way. The trail is fairly easy, classified at 2/9 difficulty/minor climb.
Some tips:
1. The 4x4 ride was tough. We felt like we were bounced around like shake shake fries. It was tough but quite an experience at the same time. This could be tough on the doggies especially if they are easily motion sick (good thing I gave him motion sickness tablets prior). I would recommend to bring a bed or something cushy to place your doggo in so it lessens the impact. Also, I would request a 4x4 vehicle like ours which is semi-enclosed as it gives me comfort that my dog will not just fly out of the vehicle.
2. During our hike, it was a bit hot but quite cloudy. I can only imagine going here during the peak summer times. I brought so much water not for me but for Rhaegar. We took a few quick stops just so I can make sure Rhaegar is well hydrated. i also let him cross/bathe in the streams to keep him cool.
3. If you can, go during the weekdays. We hiked on a Tuesday and there were only around 20-30 groups which gave us enough space to climb and take pictures comfortably. Our guide said that during the weekend there can be up to 400 groups.
4. Lastly, Rhaegar is a bigger, neutered yorkie and we live on a mountain so he is quite athletic. We may say this is an easy hike because it was easy for an old (9y/o) dog like Rhaegar but for others it may not be so. There are also some stray and owned dogs on the trail but Rhaegar is well trained and not reactive. I just made sure the other dogs don't get too close. I would also make sure your dog's vaccines and anti-parasitics are up to date.
You know your dog best. :)
