We are trying something new!! This Tuesday March 11th we have limited spots open for WELLNESS APPOINTMENTS! These will be appointment based and you will be given a specific time slot so while there may be a short wait it will be nothing like what you see on Wednesday's. These appointments are for BASIC care only such as vaccines, testing, ear infections, mild skin infections, etc. Anything more extensive (allergies, weight loss, diarrhea, new lumps or bumps, etc.) will need to be seen during our usual walk-in wellness Wednesdays. If you are interested in scheduling an appointment for this coming Tuesday please email us ASAP at [email protected]. We will hopefully have more dates to announce in the future so stay tuned!
Picture of Charles in a coat is for attention so please SHARE (but do not try at home)!!

MEET DONALD... This gentle giant (and yes, he is a big boy) is a gorgeous orange male kitty named Donald.
The Big D showed up at a good Sam's house some time last year. The family took him in to get neutered and up to date his shot records. Unfortunately, Donald tested positive for FIV. But, remember, that being FIV positive is NOT a death sentence for a cat. They can live VERY long and healthy lives with this virus. Donald only needs a loving owner to love and care for him inside the home and to make sure Donald is given regular vet care. They can also live with negative cats as the virus is really only passed by deep bite wounds. And, Donald is NOT a biter; he's a lover. Neutered male cats rarely are biters; so there is very little risk of the virus spreading to other cats. It is normally only spread through blood contact. https://www.vet.cornell.edu/.../feline-immunodeficiency...
Donald's one eye appears to have been injured at some point, but he can see fine out of both eyes. This sweet boy was definitely someone's big boy at one time, as he is extremely affectionate and wants to be right in the middle of the activity and with you. Donald weighs in at 23 pounds and around 3-4 years old. He's still a baby... just a BIG baby and a sweet heart that would love to find an inside home with someone that would love and care for him! He is a gentleman and has great manners. He's very intelligent and crawled right into the carrier to go to the vet. He uses the litter box like a champ and loves the company of humans.
Donald is being fostered in Plain City, OH.
If you would like to know more about Donald or to request an adoption application, please email Black and Orange Cat Foundation at [email protected]

We have some sad mews. Ms Lynda's Teddy has crossed the Rainbow Bridge. She rescued Teddy along with other cats in 2013. He was a shy but very sweet cat that was loved by all the other cats in the house and especially by Ms Lynda. Teddy slept with her every night. "Teddy Bear" will be missed...Run free Teddy!

📚 Our BACK TO BASICS SERIES: FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus)
FIV is a virus specific to cats and is often erroneously referred to as "cat AIDS." It is similar to AIDS in that it attacks and weakens the immune system and there is no cure. Reliable information about FIV is plentiful on the internet. We encourage you to learn more about it!
Here are some quick facts:
➡FIV is transmitted through deep bite wounds.
➡FIV is NOT transmissible to humans or dogs.
➡Cats with FIV can live long, healthy, happy and normal lives!
➡Intact males with outdoor access are most likely to be infected.
➡Kittens may be infected before, during, or after birth (while nursing).
➡FIV is quickly diagnosed through a blood test.
➡If you have an indoor/outdoor cat, you risk its FIV status every time it goes outdoors.
➡FIV+ cats CAN live with non-infected cats as long as they can co-exist peacefully. (Remember, this virus is primarily transmitted through deep bite wounds. If the cats don't fight, there's little worry about transmission.)
➡In the U.S., approximately 2.5-5% percent of healthy cats are infected with FIV.
📢 EDUCATION IS KEY!!!!! FIV+ cats have a VERY difficult time getting adopted because of their status. In the past, they were immediately euthanized instead of put up for adoption. Help CHANGE THE PARADIGM! Educate others about the virus and how cats can live a long, healthy, normal life with FIV. Manage expectations. Let's get these cats in homes!
📢 If you're in rescue or doing TNR, please note:
➡Before you place a cat for adoption (or send it to foster in a home with other cats), it should be tested for FIV. Adopt that cat out with full disclosure about its FIV status.
➡Beware of false positives in kittens under 6 months of age!
➡You can place FIV+ cats in homes with other cats that are not FIV+. Educate the adopter and make sure the cats are not likely to fight with each other.
➡We don't FIV test the cats we TNR. Alley Cat Allies also holds this position.

Our Story
AACR is a very small rescue, rehab, & re-homing operation in Columbus, OH. We are a 501c3 non-profit.
DONATIONS - You can make a donation via PayPal to [email protected] or send a check or money order to AACR ico Jan McGinnis, PO Box 62, Orient, OH 43146 and it will be delivered to Ms Lynda ASAP. We are a 501c3 non-profit and your donations can be tax deducible.
AACR has one rescuer, a few fosters and help with our page and fundraising. As much as we would love to help everyone who reaches out, we are very small and we are usually out of or low on funds.
In order to provide the best care possible and help kittens and cats in need, we rely on donations (that are tax deductible) and on our fundraising efforts. We are a very small, independent cat rescue; a private 501c3 non-profit organization that works with fosters and neighborhood caretakers to provide the necessary care and help to find new permanent homes for abandoned felines.
We do not have a shelter or staff so all of your donations go directly to the medical and daily care of the cats. We are not a government agency and we don't receive general operating support from national animal or any other organizations. 100% of all donations are for medical care, spay/neuter, general care, and supplies to support these homeless cats in Central Ohio. Every dollar makes a difference to an abandoned angel in need! We thank you so much for your support!
