is a 501(c)3 not for profit animal rescue, education and advocacy group in NYC. We believe that Each Animal Counts™ and are committed to changing the world, one animal at a time. Purpose:

Give Me Shelter Project strives to elevate the societal value of animal life through various activities including:
• Rescue and placement of unwanted animals
• Provision of necessary medical care
• Promoting tr

ap-neuter-return (TNR)
• Adoptions
• Support for and collaboration with individuals and other animal welfare organizations
• Education of the public on the importance of sterilization, basic animal care, humane treatment of animals, and the value of animals as an integral part of our society. History and Accomplishments:

Our story began in 2008 when we were part of a small group of independent rescuers who came together to rescue 88 cats from an eviction situation. Most of the cats were not friendly enough to be adopted. We searched and found placements far and wide (some cats were flown to a sanctuary in Arizona!). We undertook a similar rescue of 64 cats the following year. The scope of these rescues took an enormous toll on us physically, emotionally and financially. Many agencies advised us to turn the cats over to the local “kill” shelter. Instead, we felt compelled to consider the life of each individual cat and do all we could to protect that life. We were able to sleep at night knowing we made the right decision. Along the way, we rescued numerous other individual cats who found themselves in dire situations like Allison who was trapped in an abandoned building, and Becky who was blind and living on the street. Hobo was hit by a car and found on the side of the road with a broken arm. We now have a total of 44 cats in our care being fostered in several locations. Many would have been euthanized because the needed medical care was too expensive. Our Veterinarians saved a total of seven cats that had a deadly case of feline distemper. Many of these wonderful cats have been adopted into their forever homes. We have since rescued many more who are waiting for theirs. We have several cats with ongoing but treatable medical conditions. All donations go directly to the care of the animals to cover the cost of veterinary care, food and litter.

Kitty Needs a Miracle — Can You Be Her Hero? 💔

Kitty is a gentle, sweet senior lady who has known both the harshness of the streets and the comfort of a loving home. For the past several years, she’s been cherished by her devoted human — spending her days quietly indoors, basking in soft light, purring beside her favorite person, and enjoying every gentle pet.

But now, Kitty’s world has been turned upside down. Her beloved human has been moved into a senior care facility and will not be coming home. The house they shared is being sold, and this precious 12-year-old girl suddenly has nowhere to go.

Kitty has diabetes and needs simple lantus insulin injections twice a day — a small act of care that makes all the difference in her life. In return, she’ll give you endless love, quiet companionship, and the deep gratitude only a rescued soul can offer.

Please… open your heart to Kitty. She’s already lost so much and deserves to spend her golden years surrounded by love, not uncertainty. Be the person who gives her safety, warmth, and a forever home.

Mabel is a little spoon in search of her big spoon!

Although I was quite timid at first, never knowing human touch, except for a kick from a nasty neighbor at times, I have grown into such a lovebug! I am a master baker and will make biscuits for as long as you rub me. I love to be pet anywhere!! Even on my belly 🙂 I am super playful and LOVE my little mouse toys. When night falls my favorite place is under your arm, with my head resting on your shoulder and my paws gently caressing your face. Is there room for me in your bed and in your heart?
I am ready for my forever home where I can run around all day and get love whenever my big heart desires!

At approximately five months old, they exhibit remarkable intelligence, playfulness, and sweetness. The trio is currently residing in our cat room at Petsmart in New Hyde Park, where interested adopters can meet them.
