When do you think baby bro Brucey should have started listening to his big sis Bibi? 🧐🐶🐈‍⬛

TL;DR

At Lolo and Nana’s house, Bibi and Brucey have lots of safe backyard space to romp around. The past 9 months, Bibi has been an amazing big sis to previously undersocialized Brucey papa. Hundreds of hours of facilitated play sessions later, they have finally developed a mostly healthy and positive play style. BUT it’s still essential to protect and respect Bibi cat’s space when Brucey gets to be too much for her. 💞

Right after this video cut off, Bibi vocalized since Brucey had ignored LOTS of signals she had given him for a while. Wonderful that we all feel safe and comfortable enough to let this session play out a little while longer than it should have, but I did have to help Brucey leave Bibi alone soon after. 😅

HELLO AGAIN, EVERYONE! 😍

Indeed, it’s been a long time since my last proper post. Real talk: to say “it’s hard” to lose your soul dog (RIP Sasha Bella Oct 31, ‘24 🎃🎄💜🕊️)—the reason why I do animal behavior work—is a huge understatement.

These past months, I’ve focused on

1) my own healing and self-care,
2) Bella’s sweet baby kitten Bibi’s healing process,
3) Bibi’s new rescue bro Lenny Bruce (!!), and
4) the most incredible dog and human clients, as always! ✨

Most of y’all know I’ve been pouring more love into Ollie’s ABS this past year in various ways, but if you haven’t been part of my daily life, fret not! I am back 🙋🏻‍♀️ and here to continue sharing my clients’ incredible behavior journeys. My goal is always to inspire critical thinking, new ideas, and hope that there is such a thing as living your best life with your behavior needs animals…because success is at your fingertips with the right professional guidance, game plan, and commitment to learn and grow! 💯

Hi, my friends! 👋🏼 WOW, time flies when you’re having fun! As the year comes to a close, I’d like to share a handful of 2023’s Most Meaningful Moments in my work with animals. Here is one fun example, when I served as Momo’s handler at a Friends For Life Animal Shelter event with !

If you’re in the greater Houston area and want to visit this local shelter, I highly recommend it! Fun fact: I started my formal animal behavior education years ago with Melissa Taylor, who leads the Behavior Team at FFL. Being part of the FFL Behavior Team has been a life-changing, fulfilling experience for me…highly recommend inquiring further if it sounds interesting to you! 😉🐶🐈‍⬛🐰🐀🐓

Introducing Paddy and Bumi, my homestay doggos for the week! With two siblings and two VERY different personalities, the inter-household aggression was not surprising. Paddy and Bumi have a HIGHLY managed life.

I used to love playing that “Spot the Difference” game in the newspaper as a child. Do y’all remember those!? 🧩 Let’s try: can you 🧐 the differences in these photos?

Hint: In our initial consult this morning, I wanted to see this “pulls a lot on leash” Murdock in action. After I modeled and shared a few behavior insights, Murdock’s family was able to start implementing a few key skills for more communicative, stress-free, and enjoyable walkies right away! 🐕‍🦺✨

Murdock’s got a lot of cool things in progress: leash reactivity, meeting enrichment & socialization needs, selective aggression towards other dogs, resource guarding management, etc. Luckily, Murdock and his family are eager to better understand Murdock’s needs and take the time to work with this super intelligent, affectionate GSD. 🥰 Stay tuned as we uncover more “Murdock Mysteries”!🕵🏻‍♀️✨🎃👻🍁

Putting this thought-provoking nugget here for some Sunday reflection. 🐾

Over the past two years as the IAABC Foundation Events Director, I’ve been so lucky to work with over 80 educators at the top of their field in animal behavior and veterinary science, organizing and hosting conferences for our international community. ✨

My gratitude and humility only grows the more I learn from the professionals who’ve been involved in this important work for years, sometimes decades. 📚

I feel like I’m seeing my 3rd Aggression in Dogs Conference in a whole new light, now knowing how much goes on behind the scenes to put a conference like this together. Thank you and everyone who made this awesome weekend possible. 🙏🏼

✨Coexisting to cuddle buddies!✨ Introducing one of my long term clients, “Rico Riquísimo!” 🐶 At 10 months old in the Fall of 2020, Rico was rescued from a terrible breeding situation. Severely malnourished and with a busted face and nose from trying to escape the crate he lived in, by a stroke of luck, Rico ended up in the loving home of his forever family. 💔

Rico was shut down for weeks, but when he finally understood he was safe and home, he started to show his general anxiety, stranger danger, leash reactivity, and more behavior needs. After unsuccessful experiences with an aversive-prone trainer, redirected aggression at an overwhelming board and train, and multiple instances of aggressive behaviors displayed towards friends at home, Rico’s well-meaning family finally found an experienced behavior consultant to provide clarity amidst this chaos. 🌤️

This is where I entered Rico’s life, working with my colleague to develop a proper stranger ritual with Rico, so Rico could begin to feel safe, confident that his voice would be heard, and understanding that he wouldn’t be forced to be friends with people or dogs unless he was comfortable. ☮️

In the past two years, holy moly(!!), Rico Riquísimo’s and my relationship has developed from coexisting to being cuddle buddies! How did we get to this point, you ask? Through science-informed behavior training in consults and homestays! Stay tuned for more Rico sightings to learn more! 😉🤩

Wednesday says, "Happy Friday, everyone! Finally, the weekend is here, so Ollie can work on ALL the training I need as a 1-year-old, 110 lb puppy!" 😬
