Ayo new business cards who dis?
Incoming lengthy post that I hope y'all read 🙏🏽
For my full-time job, I work for the State of Colorado. I'm a program specialist for two federal hiring incentives that individuals from underserved communities can take advantage of in order to make themselves more marketable to employers when out jobseeking. These individuals can include Veterans, Ex-Offenders, SNAP/TANF Recipients, and more.
Much if my work involves outreach efforts to these populations, and I personally have a passion for connecting to the Ex-Offender population. In the last 1.5 years, I have personally facilitated outreach to 13 out of 21 of Colorado's state and private run correctional facilities. This outreach involves going into the facility and presenting to a group of individuals who are 1 year to 6 months from their release date about these programs.
Oftentimes, we are also invited to take a tour of the facility. I've learned so much about Colorado’s correctional facilities during these tours, which I personally find fascinating. I could make a whole long post with interesting facts, but to note: Colorado Correctional Industries is a very important program. It offers high paying (for prison) job opportunities that allow individuals to learn transferable skills to utilize upon release.
This includes:
- Dog Training
- Textile Work
- Printing Services
- Metal Working
- Coffee Brewing
- Leather Working
And more. While on a tour of DWCF, we stopped at their Print Shop and spoke to some of the women there. You could really tell they enjoyed what they did. I got these business cards made as I'm happy that my payment is going toward their pay and I'm also happy to continue to support these programs to continue to keep them operating so individuals can learn valuable skills.
If you have any questions about any of the interesting things I've learned with corrections, let me know 💯
