We are a Volunteer run, 501c3 non-profit foster-based Dog rescue in Kingwood, TX without a shelter Twyla's Friends is a 501(3)(c) charity organization.

Our mission is to help abandoned and rescued dogs in our community through veterinary assistance and help with placement in permanent homes. Twyla's Friends is a volunteer organization with no shelter or kennel facilities. All donations are used to help pay veterinary expenses for dogs in immediate need.

Our page will go quiet tonight in honor of a legendary Twyla’s dog.

Roux Parmenter Hungerland.

She was Luz when she was ours. Luz means light because she had a light in her soul to fight. To love. To survive.
Roux( Luz) was dropped in the middle of nowhere to die. Literally in the middle of the woods.She was hours from death when found. Every parasite known to man. She fought so hard to live. And live she did! She was an angel in her foster family. She was adopted into the home of a family that has supported Twyla’s Friends for years. She loved her parents, her fur siblings, her human siblings and her extended family with her whole heart. Despite her abuse, she loved all creatures. Roux was one of our heart dogs. A dog that reminds us why WE DO WHAT WE DO.

🎉🎉🎉🎉PUPPY ALERT! 🎉🎉🎉Introducing our NEWEST babies!!!! THE GILMORE GIRLS!!!

These babies and their beautiful mom were rescued from an awful situation! (We will share about that on a separate post) The baby girls and mommy are THRIVING now!! All perfect and healthy, thanks to their rockstar foster parents! 💕💕💕💕 (We are working on the puppy’s individual pages on our website as they are ready to go out on puppy contracts very soon!! )
PS- Mom 💕will be staying with our foster parents, so she won’t be on the website.

Someone must have picked this baby up!! She’s a senior, starting lose some eyesight and some hearing, but overall still very active senior. She DOES NEED SPECIAL FOOD so time is of the essence. The family is offering a hefty reward for her return. Family says she was wearing her collar with a bone shaped ID tag. She is microchipped!!

We we will have our adoptable dogs with us until 8 PM, but our supporters can continue to buy drinks until 10 PM to support us!!!!!!

It’s with the heaviest of hearts that we share our sweet Cupid lost his battle. We are totally gutted. He had multiple organ failure. 5 vets cared for him and the reason was still inconclusive. Our directors suspect cancer, but we are not totally sure. Does not change the outcome, his little body could not fight anymore. While we are totally heartbroken over losing him, we keep telling ourselves that he didn’t die alone outside of Kingwood Hospital. He had a safe home and a loving family in his last weeks on earth.
THIS. IS.THE.HARD part of rescue.
When we can’t give a dog his forever after. We tried our best sweet Cupid. We tried everything. Now, run free, go meet Rusty Cupid at the bridge. He will watch over you and protect you. 😭😭😭Thank you to our generous donors for supporting him.

( We don’t regret all we did to try to save him, he deserved the chance to live! His bills were enormous, so we will be having fundraisers in his name very soon! )

Cupid update: Our little warrior was transferred to today for further Evaluation and treatments. He’s still not improving, is resting somewhat comfortably in his Oxygen chamber while we continue to figure out what is going on. His bloodwork is still all over the place, his blood pressure and glucose are stabilizing but the rest of him not so much. As long as he’s still willing to fight, so are we, and it’s getting very expensive, so we would love your help. Thank you for your continued thoughts and prayers and for donating! 🛑Update 🛑 Cupid update:
Dr Karl from Northeast Amimal Emergency just called,
little and slow improvement for him. He is holding his blood pressure on his own and is off oxygen support, so breathing on his own . He is still getting IV antibiotics and high cal dextrose nutrients through feeding tube; moving those through his gi tract well. No vomit or diarrhea and his pcv is normal. He will get a big blood panel at 7 am again and we will have more answers on his kidney values and wbc, as well as albumin protein ( liver) and electrolytes. Prognosis is still guarded , but better than last night. He is moving his head a little but not much else. His bill is expected to surpass $10,000!!!! tonight. Directors are meeting to plan fundraisers to help offset this very large expenditure. As long as he is fighting got his life, we will fight with him. We will figure the fundraisers out and share ASAP!

Twyla’s Family, it is with heavy hearts that we share this update. Our Cupid is fighting for his life as we speak. He has gone septic and we are in for the fight of his life tonight. The vets are not sure of what is causing his demise, but we do know he has major systemic failures happening. 3 X-rays in and no blockage detected . His kidney values are terrible. His lungs are showing pneumonia. His bloodwork indicates major infection. He left the ER yesterday, but was taken back after collapsing in his foster home. The vets are treating him with antibiotics and supportive care, but his prognosis is very guarded. We have incurred large bills, will post exact numbers tomorrow, but we will not give up as long as his fighting. Remember, Cupid was out running around Kingwood Hospital for weeks so it is possible he got into something while scavenging? We don’t know what’s causing him to be so sick, but please send him all your prayers, good vibes, and whatever positive thoughts you can. We just got this baby a few weeks ago and we so want him to live a long and happy life. 😭Fight Cupid fight!!! We love you little man!!

Folks, we could use your help: Our Cupid - the little guy we took in end of May that was stray at the Hospital for over two weeks - had to spend the night at the ER, presenting with symptoms of an suspected obstruction. He had been refusing food, was vomiting and became lethargic, and as he has recently discovered the joy of playing with toys, which includes un-stuffing them, the call was made not to wait until regular vet hours. We feared he had ingested something he could not pass. He received excellent overnight care at Animal Emergency Clinic NE where X-rays came back negative for blockage, and after tests, fluids, pain meds and favorable bloodwork, was discharged into our fosters care.
While he is on the mend, this was pretty expensive, our bill for tonight was $2187.44. We could really use some help with this bill, if you are so inclined, donations can be made on our website via Paypal: https://www.twyla.org/donate/ or Venmo
