$5 Friday for the sweetest boys, Lox and Maxwell!

These two boys have some hefty vet bills. Lox is high heartworm positive and has been coughing a lot. We had to get him into the vet to make sure the damage to his heart wasn’t too far gone. The radiographs and bloodwork showed he has significant inflammation, but thankfully it is still a stage where we can treat and reverse the damage.

Maxwell has had an intense rash on his underbelly for a few months. After a visit to the vet, he was referred to the dermatologist and they are stumped. We have to do a procedure with a biopsy to determine what we are dealing with and how to treat it.

The good news is that these boys are in great hands. The not good news is there are some hefty bills that come with these vet visits.

Lox’s total: $715.09
Maxwell’s total: $1381+

If you’re able to help us with these vet costs, $5 goes a long way when many people contribute! You can donate in the following ways:

ADOPTABLE HUCK!

We used to get a lot of adoption interest from “Petfinder” website, however, they’ve had some technical difficulties the last few months, so we are relying on social media AKA YOU GUYS to help get the word out about some of our adoptables!

Meet Huck! He’s been adoptable for a few weeks with zero interest (shocking for a beagle)!

Huck is a 1.5-year-old male Beagle who weighs about 30 pounds and is fully grown. He’s the perfect mix of fun, loving, and affectionate, with that classic Beagle charm that makes everyone fall in love fast.

Huck is dog friendly and cat friendly, and he truly thrives with canine companionship. His ideal home would have another dog, as he doesn’t love being alone and enjoys having a buddy to keep him company. He’s incredibly sweet, affectionate, and loves being close to his people.

Huck is crate trained, potty trained, and walks nicely on a leash. He’s well-mannered in public and enjoys getting out and about with his foster.

Huck is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations and preventatives. He does have one final booster vaccine that is fully covered by our rescue. Huck can be adopted prior to that appointment as long as his adopters are able to get him to his final scheduled visit.

If you’re looking for a loving, social, and loyal companion who will happily curl up next to you and keep your other dog company, Huck might just be your perfect match. 💙

After sharing our top five longest residents, it’s finally time to highlight the number one longest resident… Yeller.

Yeller came to us December 27, 2023. 750 days ago. 750 days in a foster home. 750 days with no adoption interest.

Yeller came to us completely feral. He was caught in a trap and catch-poled, which gave him some serious trauma. He was terrified of humans. It took his foster mom almost a year just to be able to touch him without running away. It took over a year to get a collar on him. And in the second year of foster care, Yeller finally did what his foster mom had been waiting for for so long… he began seeking affection.

It took two years for him to feel safe. To seek that love that his foster mom tried so hard to show him. He finally figured it out.

Yeller is an easy dude. He loves his fenced yard, his doggy friends, and even the resident cat. He gets along with everyone. Although he’s still shy with new people, he has proven to us that he can build a bond with humans. He’s even made some progress with wearing a leash. Yeller may not ever be the kind of dog who goes and sits with you at a restaurant, but he is a fantastic companion and watching him continue to evolve will bring a lot of joy to a person’s life.

Yeller is fully vetted. He’s full grown at about 50lbs. We think he’s a lab mix. He is believed to be around 3-4 years old now. If you’re interested in adopting Yeller, you can apply on our website:

We’re not done sharing our top five longest residents yet…

Coming in at number two is Parka.

Parka came to us February 6th, 2024. That was 708 days ago.

Parka’s story started off very sad. She was almost euthanized at the shelter due to fear. But then someone got her out for a temporary staycation to buy her more time, and woke up one morning to the craziest surprise… puppies! Parka had a small litter of puppies, but sadly only one lived. She did a great job raising that puppy and watched him get adopted… and that was almost two years ago.

Parka is still a nervous girl with fears that she continues to work through, however, she just completed a board and train to help build confidence and she did amazing. She now has the tools to work through scary situations. She just needs someone to take a chance on her.

Parka is a medium size (around 40 pounds) and is dog friendly. She loves women but is still nervous with men. Her ideal home has no men unless they have a big heart and patience to win her over. We know there’s a big softie man of the house out there who can win her over.

Parka is now about 4 years old, so she’s spent half her life in foster care. She’s completely trained and a wonderful dog. She has the cutest big ears and best personality.

Please help us share Parka. She deserves a family to call her own.

As we head into our fifth year, we wanted to take time to highlight five of our longest residents. You’ll notice a common theme among them… and that theme is that they are truly incredible dogs. Somewhere along the way, people assume there must be a reason these dogs haven’t been adopted. That they’re “bad dogs” or come with major issues. That couldn’t be further from the truth.

We’re here to remind you of these amazing dogs who have been waiting far too long for someone to choose them.

Coming in at number three is Kela!

Kela came to us on July 25, 2024. That was 537 days ago. When she arrived, she weighed around 140 pounds and could barely walk. She was also heartworm positive. The beginning of her foster journey was long and challenging, but Kela conquered every obstacle placed in front of her. To date, she has lost over 50 pounds, completed heartworm treatment, and transformed into a healthier and happiest girl. Despite being adoptable for quite some time, she has had zero adoption interest.

Kela’s foster mom constantly raves about how easy she is. She loves walks, golf cart rides, and long couch snoozes. She can be left out without worry and is not destructive at all. She has never had an accident in the house and truly could not be more low-maintenance. Kela does well with the dogs currently in her home, but prefers slow introductions with other adult dogs. She absolutely adores puppies and would make an amazing older sister, but she is also perfectly content being someone’s one and only.

If you’re looking for a laid-back, gentle giant who is equal parts easy and sweet, Kela is your girl.

Kela is fully vetted and ready for adoption. Her full profile and adoption application can be found on our website:

As we head into our fifth year, we’d like to spend some time highlighting five of our longest residents! You’ll see a common trend among them… and that trend is that they’re amazing dogs. Maybe people think there must be a reason they haven’t been adopted, that they must be “bad dogs,” but that couldn’t be further from the truth. We’re here to remind you about these incredible dogs who have been waiting a very long time for someone to choose them!

Coming in at number four is Maxwell!

Maxwell came to our rescue on July 31, 2024. That was 526 days ago.

Maxwell was initially considered a hospice case. He has a rare tick-borne illness called Hepatozoonosis. The shelter believed he wouldn’t have any quality of life and planned to euthanize him. We decided he deserved more dignity at the end of his life and deserved to know a loving foster home before leaving this world. But something changed when Maxwell entered foster care. His symptoms were managed and eventually disappeared. He gained weight! And now he lives a normal, happy, healthy life. He is expected to have a long life after all!

Maxwell is an incredible dog. He is completely house trained. He is great in his crate, great when left out, great on walks, great in the car, and he adores the kids in his foster home! He loves his foster brother and does well with other dogs, but prefers to get to know them slowly.

Maxwell has been to almost all of our events. He is a trooper! He also has a hilarious personality that keeps everyone entertained. His nickname is “Sir Poops-A-Lot” because he loves to relieve himself in the most random places, usually in a tall bush!

Maxwell is fully vetted, fully trained, and FULL of love to give to a person or family. If you’re interested in adopting Maxwell and being the person he’s been patiently waiting for for over a year, you can apply on our website!

As we head into our fifth year, we’d like to spend the next few days highlighting 5 of our longest residents. You’ll see a common trend in our longest residents… and that trend is that they’re amazing dogs. Maybe people think there’s a reason that they haven’t been adopted, that they must be “bad dogs”, but that is so far from the truth. And we’re going to spend the next few days reminding you about these amazing dogs who have been waiting a very long time for someone to choose them.

Coming in at number 5 is Beth!

Beth has been with us since February 2nd of 2025. That’s 340 days. Beth is an incredible dog. She does great in a home or in an apartment. She’s great on leash and out in public. She is great with other dogs, cats, and even pigs! Her idea of a perfect day is a leash walk where she can smell the world and watch the neighborhood squirrels, then head back inside for a snooze on the couch. Beth is fantastic in her crate. She isn’t destructive when left out. She’s great with all people, even kids!

When Beth came to us, her jaw was severely damaged from an injury. She had every reason to fear the world and fear people, but she doesn’t. And although it’s been so long that she’s waited to be adopted, she doesn’t wake up and feel sorry for herself or feel sad. This girl has so much love and appreciation for life and is patiently waiting for her people to find her.

Please share Beth! We know her family is out there. We would love to see this girl adopted before it’s been an entire year in foster care.

Four years ago today, The Bridge Between officially launched. That first year exceeded every expectation I had, and with each year since, we’ve continued to grow, learn, and evolve in ways I never could have planned.

Like any journey worth taking, there have been highs and lows. People have come and gone, and some have been here since the very beginning (you know who you are ❤️).

The first two years felt like running a marathon I wasn’t sure I belonged in. But over the last two years, something shifted. An incredible team came together, we found our rhythm, and the work started to feel sustainable. I’ve never been someone who enjoyed asking for help, but I’ve learned that the right people beside you can turn something overwhelming into something possible. It truly takes a village, and I’m grateful for ours.

As Bridge Between continues to evolve, I feel confident heading into the next two years with a strong team, a solid program, and a clear mission to save lives. With that growth came the need for a visual that better reflects who we are today.

Today, we’re officially sharing our new logo.

I designed our original logo on my iPad, never imagining where it would end up. From a simple idea, it found its way alongside some of the most well-known businesses in Charleston, onto baseball and hockey stadium displays, and across thousands of screens. That logo carried us through our early years and more growth than I ever expected.

This refresh keeps what mattered most from the beginning. The inspiration remains my soul dog, Levee (sorry Banks, you didn’t make this logo because everyone thought we’re strictly a Catahoula rescue lol), and it also signifies our belief in the role we play within the animal rescue community. The new logo represents clarity, growth, and intention. It honors where we started and reflects where we’re headed.

We’ve built systems that work, protocols refined over four years, and a community rooted in compassion and commitment. And we’re just getting started.

Thank you to everyone who has believed in this little rescue and played a role along the way, no matter how big or small. You are The Bridge Between. Let’s go save some more lives 🫶

Meet Huey! Our (last?) / most recent pull of the year!

Huey found himself in Charlotte Mecklenburg Animal Care & Control after being hit by a car. Thankfully his radiographs showed no fractures, but he still needed a soft place to heal instead of a shelter kennel. Thankfully for him, his post caught our attention and I happened to be in town for the holidays. So Huey got to spend Christmas in a home and not the shelter!

This little guy is about 6 months old and has been spending the last week resting up from his traumatic entrance into the rescue world, but he is now thriving in his foster home!

You can meet Huey (and others) on New Years Day! We will be hanging out with .abovo kicking off the annual Polar Plunge! See last two photos for details!

Our rescue family had a great Christmas! We are eternally grateful for our fosters, volunteers, and supporters for bringing so much joy to our animals and team this holiday season.

We had Secret Santas from the amazing nurses in the Medical ICU at MUSC! They hand-delivered goodies to our fosters around Charleston. We are so grateful for their generosity!

We also had many donations, both monetary and physical, from the NAI Charleston group! This is the second year this incredible team has donated to our organization, and we are so grateful!

We also received donations thanks to Abovo Boutique’s holiday party, in which 10% of proceeds were donated back to our organization. Some of our team members even got to join in on the fun!

And lastly, we closed our holiday fundraiser and raised a total of $3,558! This will do huge things for us!! 🎉

The people behind the magic, and even more we haven’t listed, made our holiday very special. This holiday season was tough for some, so the generosity brought a lot of much-needed joy. Now we will be spending the final days of 2025 wrapping up our year and planning for a fantastic 2026!

Thank you to everyone who continues to play a role in our mission. You are all a part of the bridge between ❤️
