Want to feel out west but still stay on the east coast? Then go visit High Country Campground where you can ride right up in to Jefferson National Forest, Lewis Fork Wilderness and Virginia Highlands State Park all in south western Virginia. You have hundreds of trails to explore and can see the wild ponies and sometimes the long horn cows. Pete Bartel is a great camp host, sometimes he even cooks for you (he's an amazing cook), and he rents out his stock trailer that you can use to make the ride up to Elk Garden trail head and others even shorter. His camp spots for trailers are very level but he also has tent spots and even rents an rv. There are bath houses within walking distance and plenty of spacious horse stalls. This is always our favorite place to go visit!
