DOG WALKING IN CHINA: A DIFFERENT EXPERIENCE

🐕Dog ownership has grown rapidly in China, especially in major cities such as Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. As a result, dog walking has become part of daily life for millions of pet owners.

🐕Walking a dog in China's crowded cities can be quite different from walking one in Australia. Many people live in high-rise apartments, so dogs depend on their daily walks for exercise and stimulation. Parks and open spaces become busy in the early morning and evening as owners head out with their pets.

🐕One unusual sight is the popularity of pet strollers. Small breeds, elderly dogs and puppies are sometimes wheeled to parks before being allowed to walk and explore. This helps keep them safe on busy streets and crowded footpaths.

🐕Fashion is another distinctive feature of dog walking in China. Many owners dress their dogs in colourful jackets and outfits. Some clothing is practical for cold weather, while other outfits are simply for fun and often attract attention from passers-by.

🐕In some neighbourhoods, groups of owners meet each evening, turning a routine walk into a social event. Dogs enjoy exercise and interaction, while owners enjoy conversation and companionship.

🐕Despite these differences, the goal is the same as anywhere else: giving dogs exercise, mental stimulation and quality time with their humans.

Why your dog pulls on the leash.

Have you ever wondered why your dog pulls on the leash and totally ignores you? Most of the time, it's because you've set things up so that it's easy and comfortable for your dog to ignore and disobey you...

You bought one of those harnesses, hoping that it would stop him pulling. But it didn't, did it? He still does what HE wants to do, not what YOU want him to do, which is walk by your side. Now it may be possible to train a dog to walk to heel with a harness - I just don't know how to do it!

Over the years I've trained a Lab, 2 Rotties, 2 Kelpies, a GSD, a Ridgeback and a rescue-"Bitsa". All decent-sized dogs, and all using a slip-collar, often unfortunately called a "choke collar". I taught ALL of my dogs to walk calmly and HAPPILY by my side, in very little time, and not one of them came to any harm. It's easy - you just have to know what you're doing

Calvin still can’t believe he hasn’t had anyone apply to adopt him. He is great with other dogs, loves pats and cuddles, is housetrained, travels beautifully in the car and sleeps all through the night on a dog bed or a people bed . He is delightful and would love to have a couple kids or another dog to pay with.

He's in SA but can be transported anywhere.
