Garth the guinea pig with wacky hair named after Garth from 'Wynes World' came to The Vet Whitehaven for his castration.

Small furries can lose heat very quickly during an anaesthetic because they have a large surface area to body weight ratio. This means it’s very important to keep them warm and cosy throughout their anaesthetic procedure.

Our team made sure Garth was snuggled up and comfortable the whole time — he was such a good boy and has now fully recovered💛

Meet our star 🌟 of the month, Jasper! Together Jaspers owners and our nursing team created a plan to help him shed a few pounds which will aid his future mobility and comfort.
Over the last few months Jasper has lost an impressive 7.7kg and has now reached his target healthy weight of 44kgs!
Well done to Jasper!

SP Electricity North West have informed us that The Vet Whitehaven will experience a temporary power outage tomorrow morning.
This is expected to last no longer than one hour.

During this short period, our services will be limited. We kindly ask that only emergency calls are made to help us minimise the impact of this disruption.

As soon as power is restored, we’ll be back up and running as normal and ready to assist you fully.

It is nearly 2 weeks until Bonfire Night. Are you and your pet prepared?
If you pet suffers from anxiety during the fireworks season, you can try Natural Calming Remedies such as Adaptil tablets, diffusers or collars, Zylkene or Yucalm to help calm your pet.
There are stronger prescription medication available if your pet struggles to cope.

Originally from Warrington, Gemma has recently made the move to beautiful Cumbria and brings with her over 10 years of experience working with animals — including time as a zookeeper caring for rhinos and giraffes! 🦏🦒
Qualified as a Registered Veterinary Nurse since 2019, she has a background in exotic species but is now really enjoying working with cats and dogs again. At home, she’s kept busy with her two dogs, Sally and Wilson, and two cats, Crumpet and Franklin 🐶🐱
When Gemma is not at the practice, you’ll find her camping, hiking and exploring everything Cumbria has to offer.
