It's a snow day at my day job! Thank you Mother Nature for your good timing.
Amazingly, Opal is actually sleeping in. Good thing too because she's going to have to tackle the task of going outside, in the windy, cold, wet, and white stuff to potty. She's already said, at 2am, she's not loving the new surface under her feet and would rather wait for improvements to the yard than step out the door.
I will see if a little peer pressure/support from the other dogs will help her. If not, I will see if she will go out if I go with and offer snacks for being brave. If that doesn't work, I'll break out the doggy litter box and encourage her to use that instead, but fingers crossed she follows the other dogs outside. I don't want to force the issue, but also don't want her to potty in the house somewhere. So, until she successfully potties in an appropriate location she will be leashed to me.

Congratulations to the handsome Sid on completing his BehaviorCare Subscription! Isn't he just gorgeous!
Sid worked on becoming more comfortable with his mom chatting with people they met while on walks and learning that we can't always meet the other dogs we see. He and his mom are rockstars!

It's such a gorgeous day out today, I spontaneously decided I absolutely had to take a picture with ALL the dogs down by the world famous Edna G tugboat.
Everyone was so excited to go on an adventure together. I don't usually take Opal anywhere with Copper or Darwin yet because they both have a tendency towards reactive behaviors that I rather Opal not learn. Dogs are social creatures and learn quite a bit from the others within their circle (both canine and human) so, I choose carefully if I decide to have the others join me. It can cause a bit of chaos at times though since they aren't well practiced at working together as a group away from home. With some practice, the chaos easily would smooth over. It sure makes for some entertainment in the short term for anybody watching though 🤣

No force. No sedation. Just voluntary cooperation being reinforced with something the bear desires. Your dog can also learn to willing cooperate with you, the vet, or groomer. I am passionate about this niche of behavior modification and am certified in cooperative care training. Hi, it’s me, Ranger!
I’m still here at the shelter…patiently waiting for someone to come and swoop me up! I’ve been here since July and I’ve decided I really like the ladies here at the shelter. But this can’t be my forever home…right? I would like a nice warm bed and someone to snuggle with at night. Oh, and lots and lots of stuffy toys.
I may be a little bit sassy and opinionated, but I can’t be that scary at only 10 pounds! Just look at how cute I am!

Dog training is unregulated…
Unlike your doctor, lawyer, and child’s teacher, dog trainers have no official regulating body. That means no required education; no enforced best practices; and no ethics oversight.
While the lack of regulation means trainers do not have to adhere to the science of behavior and training, the science itself is clear about how dogs learn and how best to teach them.
In fact, veterinary bodies worlwide, including the American Veterinary Society for Animal Behavior, agree that reward-based training is the safest, most effective way to change your dog’s behavior, regardless of their age or breed.
Ask questions of any trainers you are potentially going to work with. Ask them what happens to your dog if they don't get it right. Walk away if it involves anything designed to cause pain, fear, or intimidation such as choke collars, prong/pinch collars, shock collars, shake cans, rolling the dog, scruffing the dog, poking the dog, hitting/kicking the dog, etc.
Real trainers use their head, not their hands, to change an animal's behavior.

Congratulations to sweet Hazel who recently completed her Padawan Puppy Package of private sessions! She learned so much, including how to control her mouth, walk on a leash, come when called, play nicely with her little humans, and more. It was such a pleasure working with her family to help her get off to good start in life!

Scored a nice little cot on marketplace! It's intended for toddlers, but my plan is to use it for Copper, who is nearly 9yrs old, and often chooses to sleep on a bed on the floor. I will put her bed up on this so its raised a little and will hopefully keep the chill away.
Clearly ALL the dogs feel this is a fantastic new place mat! The girls hopped off after a bit but Darwin stayed and got comfy! Maybe we will incorporate this into place training for everyone.

Congratulations Edmond! He completed the Jedi package of 10 sessions to work on his very big feelings about other dogs and people and bikes. When Edmond's family first started with me they were unsure if they could even keep Edmond. He was having very big reactions to many things when he was just out on his potty walks. We worked on building skills to change his behavior and collaborated with his vet to address the health related aspects of his behavior. His family worked hard with him over the past year helping him build skills to better cope with the crazy world around him. Using this whole team approach has made it possible for Edmond to now confidently go out in public without big reactions. He is a happy boy with happy parents who know how to continue supporting and guiding him on his learning journey.
