Goodbye Pearl 🤍

On Friday we sadly had to say goodbye to Pearl. She started having more complications with the suspected masses in her ears that were causing her to be quite wobbly and inactive. We tried antibiotics for a week but sadly they didn't help, we didn't feel that surgery was the right choice for her without a friend to help her through recovery. As her quality of life had decreased dramatically, we made the decision to have her PTS so that she could go peacefully. She was a very independent and strong willed little lady, even when she was looking the completely wrong way for attention! She brought a lot of joy and laughter into our lives for the year we were privileged enough to know her for, and she will be dearly missed. Goodbye my sweet girl, you will always be in our hearts 🤍

Night night Dory 🤍

On Friday we sadly said goodbye to wee Dory. I found she had laboured breathing Thursday night, so I gave her some pain relief, a heat pad and lots of snacks and took her in to see the vet first thing Friday morning. Having been through this before I was keen to try and do more diagnostics to find out what was wrong, but as she was struggling to breathe she would need to be admitted and there was an increased risk of her not surviving the anaesthetic with how weak she was. So instead I opted for pain relief & antibiotics to try and treat it as a respiratory infection. When we got home she stopped eating and was struggling to take her meds, Friday evening as I got her out for bed time meds she passed away in my hands. I held her and cuddled her for a bit and told her how much she was loved. She was so sweet and gentle, and loved hanging out with mummy & daddy as well as turning on the cuteness to beg for snacks! She will be sorely missed, goodbye my sweet baby, you will never ever be forgotten 🌈

In addition to the ongoing costs for vet treatment and operations, Justice for Gerbils is also in the process of assisting in rescuing a sizeable number of animals from a case in south Wales. I FIND IT VERY HARD TO SAY NO

I've taken in quite a few rescues over the last couple of weeks; some young pairs who'll be up for adoption by the end of the month, a couple of older boys, Marley and Mike who'll be staying here forever and 6 mice.

THIS WEEK ALREADY
* One of the female mice underwent theatre and had a cyst removed.
* The 3 male mice were castrated so that they can eventually live a happy life with the girlies.
* Both Otis' and Rowan's teeth needed burring (NOT CLIPPING!)

Marley had a scent gland tumour on arrival last Tuesday and I found one on Miles, aged 4 last night.
They're both booked in on Monday.

Finally finished Sandy & Moo's first tank clean 😮‍💨 normally I'd spread it out over 2 days but because it's their first one I wanted to do it quickly to get them back in. Made absolutely sure I had enough bedding this time too 😅

Finally done 😮‍💨 after 3 months of bonding & upgrades, Moo & Sandy finally have their full setup! Bedding isn't quite as high as I'd like it, silly me thinking 7kg of h**p & 85L of kaytee as well as half a bag of hay would be enough 😅 but I'm sure they'll rearrange it how they like it in no time!
