We often make extensive plans, believing we need to be fully prepared, especially when something is, as you say, ‘accurate.’
I reached out to a vet, convinced that I needed to ensure everything was perfect for Mily’s delivery. I had a detailed calendar marking the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd days of mating, the ultrasound was scheduled perfectly, and the x-rays were completed on time. Then came the waiting game.
One unexpected morning at 7 AM, we discovered a puppy on the floor. I stood there in shock, faced with the decision of whether to help Mily give birth to her puppies since time was running out. Mily isn’t fond of car rides, even if a visit to the vet would only take five minutes. So there I was, sitting beside her with bloodied hands, anxiously awaiting more puppies in addition to the ones I had already found in her whelping box and on the floor. The first puppy I saw being born was trapped in a transparent sac, completely still, pale as a ghost, and not separating from Mily. I feared we had lost her, but as I gently pulled her out, she gave a slight movement. Holding her close, I couldn’t help but whisper, ‘Stoa.’ I knew she was the one we are keeping, Stoa.
Despite the ultrasound suggesting we would have 3 puppies, Mily surprised us with 6 more. In total, we welcomed 9 beautiful, healthy puppies. As I write this, I can’t help but feel exhausted, my nails are a mess, and my clothes are stained with puppy blood, but it was a day I will always cherish, filled with joy.
Ladies and gentlemen, let me introduce you to our little Emily’s.
