Dig, dig, dig dig!

A seemingly annoying and sometimes precieved as a naughty behavior. But, a completely natural one. Dogs dig for a variety of reasons, some positive and some negative.

Here, Teylie has been taught to dig on command. It helps her et rid of excess energy, keeps her strong and is used as a way to keep her nails in check! ๐Ÿ˜ ๐Ÿพโค๏ธ

Lovely little Luna!

A shy little girl that's slowly coming into her confidence.
Here, she is demonstrating her 2nd session learning to stop at a distance.

In practice, this skill can be used anywhere and for various reasons. Stopping your pooch from running towards someone or something.
Preventing a sneaky slip out of a door or gate. Even at the park when your doggo just can't resist that muddy puddle!

Game proofing! - Teaching your dog not to chase/interact with or look at other animals as prey. This family lives in a eco estate, which means that although their property is fenced, there is plenty of game that moves freely. It also means they often come accross animals on walks.

Here Nellie is beautifully showing how peaceful and pleasant a walk can be with the right training. She is observant, but calm and happy to stay alongside the handler despite the curious zebras.

With the right training and plenty of patience, anything is possible. Senior client walking one of her 2 Pitbulls.

The breed has a negative connotation, and this is largely due to improper socialization, training, and lack of education on the owners' part.

Enrichment is great for your dog but can be time consuming for you! Preparation is key!

Set some time aside once a week and prep your fillings, toys and puzzles. This makes for quick grab and go when you are pressed for time and need to keep Fido happy too!

Remember you can lay out multiple toys with different difficulty levels. This gives your dog choices and variation throughout the day.

Rehab is hard work....

Just like humans, dogs sometimes need rehab after a procedure or injury. Teaching your dog to be calm and still is a game changer for handling

In the video, we have 10 month old Merlin that was diagnosed with OCD at a young age. Her owners were informed that she would likely need to undergo surgeries when she's older, as well as rehab and physiotherapy. We worked and prepped to teach her to be happy with handling, and here she is, a few weeks post her first surgery and handling her exercises like a champ!

What's the first thing you think of when someone says dog toy? Most people think ball.

Balls come in thousands of variations, but the thing they have in common? They all require human input to be useful for your dog. He can't throw it himself.

But if you have a busy schedule and playing fetch with Fido wasn't on the books for the day, doesn't mean you can't buy a ball for your dog. The answer? Look for texture! Texture can be enticing for the dog and promote chewing. Texture can also hold things like nut butters, yogurt and wet foods, turning the ball into an enrichment device.
