Let me introduce you to Dawn my official first horse, I did have a lovely mare before her but we had a bad fall both of us and I lost all trust in her so she was sold on to some lovely girls we knew. So I first met Dawn when I was working at local yard at weekends when I was 11 and I think my my was sick to death about hearing about her. Dawn was actually sold to a lovely lady and I was devastated, but sadly the lady was diagnosed with cancer and Dawn then returned. She was then turned away for a while and to my delight she came back into work so I got to ride her again. One day mum said we where heading up to the yard where Dawn was as a lady that lived on the yard use to do mums eyebrows for her, but when we arrived her car wasn’t there, so mum said let’s go have a look at the horse while we wait. I then proceeded to show her where Dawn was but before I could show her mum had the door open and I was confused, so with that mum said are you not coming to see your new horse. Well I burst into tears with happiness and few days later she arrived at the yard we kept are horses on. Me and Dawn have had so much fun over the years from showjumping, xcountry, hunting even a bit of showing. Dawn has been very accident prone over the years some her own fault some not. It all really started when a new livery turned her pony out without asking into Dawns field and said pony kicked Dawn causing her to end up with a broken splint bone but luckily with very strict rehab she came back to full work, but her list of ailments go on from abscesses, splitting her frog in half ect. She semi retired when she 18 due to her tendon blowing up but a year later once recovered my sister took her round the Wigtown marches where she then had to retire fully as a few months later she went lame again. Dawn has always been a terrible weever and we think this is why her tendons in her front legs have weakened as she just doesn’t stop. A few years ago we thought we were loosing her as her leg blew up like a balloon from top to bottom resulting in cellulitis which was so painful for her. But in true Dawn style she wasn’t ready to go yet and made a full recovery, yes she has arthritis and is a bit stiff but my god she can still gallop across that field and keep up with the young ones. So while she is happy and still the boss in the field she isn’t going anywhere. There is so many more story’s I could tell about Dawn but we haven’t got all day.
