Someone once offered us a contact to buy beef from Brazil for $0.64 a pound. We get cold emails almost weekly from companies selling dehydrated animal parts for pet treats. Some are from China, Turkey, Argentina. We’ve had suggestions to white label or co-pack too.
None of that is necessarily wrong. It’s just not right for us.
Our why is here. In the pilina we’ve built with local ranchers, hunters, and farmers. In using what our islands already provide and making sure nothing goes to waste. In putting healthy, real food on the table and in the dog bowl. And in giving back to the community that supports us.
We might not become a multi-million dollar pet brand. And honestly, that’s okay.
We’re here for our keiki. For the ʻāina. For our pets. And for every local business working toward the same goal of feeding our people, keeping our resources close to home, and growing a stronger Hawaiʻi.
If that sounds like your kind of crowd, come meet us at this year’s Made in Hawaiʻi Festival. It’s one of the best places to connect with brands who truly care about Hawaiʻi and the people who live here.
Tag your favorite Hawaiʻi-grown businesses below so that I can slowly start swaping out my pantry staples. 😀 I’ll start.
