Melissa Morris has been competitively riding in the eventing and dressage disciplines for ten years. She has brought up several young horses from scratch, training them herself and taking them on to compete in many states across the country and taking many top titles. Melissa’s first horse, Skippy, a leopard Appaloosa she purchased as a 2 year old stallion, was her first eventing horse. Finding th
at his heart was not in 4H competitions, she changed paths and started his eventing career. He went on to win many top titles at shows, winning most that he competed in. Skippy and Melissa won the Junior Beginner Novice division of the American Eventing Championships in 2014 in Texas. Melissa went on to take Skippy to several more AEC’s in Colorado, Texas, and North Carolina. Skippy and Melissa went on to compete training level and then Skippy retired and is now a farm favorite lesson horse for countless young children. Her next eventing partner was a homebred Appaloosa / Morgan cross. Dandi was raised on Melissa’s grandparents farm and holds a special place in the family’s heart. Dandi comes from a long line of competitive and spunky horses. She was not an easy ride but Melissa also took her on to compete training level across the country where the team became very competitive and also competed at the American Eventing Championships in North Carolina at the Tryon Equestrian Center. Dandi stood out everywhere she went with her bold personality and coat color. Melissa trains regularly with top trainers in the Midwest to continue and expand her knowledge for eventing. She also utilizes clinicians from across the country to learn from their expertise. Some of her favorite clinicians include dressage trainers Davis Wightman and Alyssa Doverspike from California and eventing trainers Lainey Ashker and Buck Davidson from the East coast. Melissa Morris Eventing assists horsemen and women in all disciplines and levels of riding. She strives to help everyone learn and get along with their horse partner better. Focusing on always starting with ground work and gaining respect while also learning any holes in the horses training, she is able to create a game plan individualized for the horse. Each horse is unique in their own way and needs a routine and workout personalized to them. Melissa also is a huge advocate for desensitization and exposing horses to as many things as possible to set up the horse for success in any atmosphere. Melissa has not only started and brought up three young horses successfully on her own, she has also restarted two off the track thoroughbreds and placed them in homes fitting for them. She recently purchased a new OTTB mare and is restarting her slowly to take into the eventing and dressage field as well. Melissa is located in the Northland of KCMO and is able to travel to assist with lessons and training. Not only does she have extensive experience with many different breeds of horses, but also different sizes! Due to Melissa’s short nature, she can ride the small horses as well!
