Structure matters more than most people realize.

When I look at a Bulldog, I’m not just looking for a big head, wrinkles or a certain body shape. I’m looking at how everything works together.

Can they move comfortably? Are their legs positioned well? Is their body balanced? Can they run and play without their structure working against them?

There is a difference between looking like a Bulldog and being exaggerated just for the sake of appearance.

I want our Bulldogs to have the classic look people love, but I also want them built to function.

Good structure isn’t just about appearance. It can directly impact how a Bulldog moves, exercises and enjoys everyday life.

That’s why it matters so much in our breeding program.

I like to look at the space between the ears and the width of the jaw line. These two traits tell you how a puppy will fill out and mature structurally. When I think of headsize and puppies I think about risk and parents. A young pup with a huge head is basically set. There is very little risk that the pup will not look great. On the other hand - a pup with a smaller head - carries a higher degree of risk. There is a possibility it will have a smaller head and not look as good. Of course - many aren’t as picky as I am and simply love all bulldogs. With a smaller headed pup - you look at the parents to weigh risk. I both or one of the parents struggles with head size - the pup’s risk is high. If I have a smaller pup with great looking parents - I know it will fill out eventually and blame birth weight and first two weeks of nutrition for the smaller frame.
