6 years ago today I had an idea!!!

“I'm so sick of the weather being too hot, too wet, or just too Texan to work my dogs, so I'm considering putting up a training building where my old non functioning garage is. This would just be for my own use, not classes, and for obedience/rally work, not for agility. I'm thinking a 20' x 40' metal building would be adequate, or I could go to a 30' x 40'. Please share your thoughts and experiences!”

I bought a PEMF pad for my sister, and she isn't using it... So, it is brand new and in search of a new home! (You can google petspemf for details on the technology.) I bought one about 2 years ago for Gus (and Cracker) and found that it worked just fine for me! A friend also borrowed mine when she was recovering from a shattered kneecap. Pulsating Electro Magnetic Field aids in pain relief, stress relief and rapid healing. This is a large, 27.5 x17.5 x.08. Cracker frequently puts himself into a crate so I'll turn it on for him! It's super easy to use- Interfaces with your smartphone! Retails for $399 but they are having a summer sale with $65 off. I'm letting the new one go for $320. Small signals.
Big meanings.
These movements and behaviors aren’t random.
They've been carefully chosen and deliberately used by your dog and they're being used to avoid confrontation, deescalate or steer clear of something they feel uneasy about .
They might sense just a little pressure or conflict...so they offer a signal to say, “We’re all good here.”

Growling is a clear signal they can give...but it's risky.
Way before the growl are all these little signals they can give.
It's communication and it's natural....but we can be "offended" when we realise they are aiming them at us.

Instead of taking it personally, we can ask ourselves....
Why do they feel the need to use them?
That question is an opportunity to support our dogs better

Some signals serve a double duty.
A tail lowering, perhaps tucking? Often fear.....but it can also act as appeasement.
A lowered head? Maybe appeasement, maybe fear.
Context matters.

They can be incredibly subtle.
Tricky to spot....but we owe it to our dogs to look a little deeper at why they are behaving the way they are.

It is all communication.

It's getting closer to Shannon's rally seminar! I've known her for many years, taking both a Rally Foundation and a Nosework class with Tanner. We did out and about searches, and it was a blast! Her focus is now on Rally which coming from her freestyle experience will be lots of fun! Here is a short clip from America's Got Talent way back in 2018!

So here is the lowdown-

Dog Days of August

Reserve your own 3 hour time slot! All equipment use is included!
Choose your time, sign up on the calendar, show up, train and then leave the building exactly as you found it. Suggested donation of $30 can be paid via Venmo to 940-367-6365 or put in the donation jar when you arrive. Please sign the waiver hanging on the clipboard.

I hate that FB lists me as a Dog Trainer. I’m not. I have never considered myself one. Real “dog trainers” have certifications from Karen Pryor or Fenzi showing they have had extensive training in all areas of behavior, etc. They have proof that they have the tools and skills to teach all breeds of dogs using mainly positive reinforcement.
I’m a People Trainer. I help people understand their dog and how to influence them to be Good Dogs.
