We tried our hardest last year to get magpies with good caps, and after trying a few different ways, at the end of the hatching season we finally had some good results 🙌
So we went straight in this year with the same combination of birds and it seems like it is paying off.
First 2 of 2025 magpies with caps 🦆

Cam brook constructions have been busy up the pond again this week. 💪
Managed to build us two new custom made pens and some feed boxes to go on our existing pens, just to make our lives a little bit easier 😀
Can not recommend the company enough. 💯

Well, we finally put are big pants on and entered our first show the welsh winter fair. 🩲🤣
We managed to pick up four 1st place, three 2nd place and one 3rd place in various classes. 🪙
Had a smashing day and was great to meet some of the other competitors.
I finally met Alan Davis which has been on my meet list for a few years.
Congratulations to a couple of the new comers to the call duck scene.

JUST A THANKS This post has no significance it's hopefully going to answer some questions that I keep getting from new people venturing into the call duck world.
Me and David Brown have kept call ducks for many years but only in the last 4 years we have been taking it seriously and named it Mendip calls.
2 main questions are what blood lines did you start with?
Who might have some quality call for sale? Obviously I can only give my personal opinion on people i've met and dealt with over the years.
There will be many other top quality breeders out there that i havent met.
So my bloodlines originate from, and I would recommend.
Tom Soper
James Eggins
Edward jones
The main lot of call ducks I bought was from Joe Pepper , he dosent keep calls at the moment but fingers crossed and with the wind in the right direction the man will come back with avengence before long.
So it's just a thanks from me and David to those guys who have helped us, and if your looking for call ducks before the fast approaching breeding season.
Get on facebook find them out and see if they can help you out.
Thanks everyone

It's so nice to see the ducks come through the moult and then to see their real colours appear. 🦆
It always amazes me how rough some of them look whilst going through the moult to then how good they look after.
Im sure my white we call "big head" go attacked by a cat he looked so rough 🐈🤣

The highs and lows ⬆️⬇️
This weekend was a tester of my patience to say the least 😤🤣
Two ducks due to hatch Friday night the chocolate mallard hatched one by herself but unfortunately that duckling had died 😔 then she abandoned the nest completely, so I rushed them home to the incubator.
Saturday a magpie hatched five ducklings then decided to abandon the two and the rest of her eggs, so again rushed them home. 🏡🥚🦆
Then to top that off the three the magpie kept she abandoned them and then started to reject them too, so that's three more ducklings added to the incubator.
But all in all ive saved 9 ducklings. 😀🦆
Happy Easter everyone
