I attended the first fearful & feral dog immersive program in the United States which was hosted by Kelly Engel () & Julie Hart (). I learned how dogs who have lived without humans deem one safe, trustworthy, & valuable to their survival (& by the way it is not by bribing them with food).

I spent last week handling Reba who is a feral dog from New Mexico. I am so thankful for Reba for being a patient teacher, being willing to try, & showing me what’s possible. The first two days I was questioning myself & to be completely honest feeling a little discouraged. That changed on the third day when I was crying happy tears because Reba showed me she trusted me & opened up to me.

I want to thank Kelly & Julie for their valuable knowledge & for making this opportunity possible. Thank you to Trish () who handled Flapjack, Kris () who handled Midnight, & Megan () who handled Lulu. Everyone’s experiences with the dogs they were handling & their perspectives were valuable. A safe space was cultivated not only for us to learn about the dogs but also for the dogs to learn to trust & that was powerful.

Happy 2nd birthday to Mac🎉 This pup is so dang sweet, always down for an adventure, & knows how to have fun! So glad he is part of the SoulMutt pack & I got to celebrate him on his special day🩷

Congratulations to the newest graduate, Teddy the 8 month old Bernese Mountain Dog🎓 This sweet boy spent last week training with Joe & I to make sure he understood recall with the e-collar then we spent this week getting out on adventures to proof his recall with distractions. He had the best time being off leash but learned that he needed to come every time he was called even if he was in the middle of a game of chase or sniffing something interesting. Now he’ll be able to enjoy the off leash life with his owners just in time for spring😊🐾

Edit the OG🩷 This handsome Australian Shepherd was the very first pack hike pup! He has been going on adventures with me for two years but has been part of my pack for four years! He has seemingly endless energy & the hikes have given him an outlet to play, explore, & just be a dog! I can always count on Edit to make friends with every dog, bring tons of fun, & an also bring a bit of mischief😉 Love this cutie!

Timber Tuesday🩵 This handsome pup is 12 years old & isn’t slowing down! He’s an OG SoulMutt pack member & has been hiking with me weekly since March of 2023! He has the best facial expressions including some very sassy looks😹
