Paws for Elee

Paws for Elee Fundraiser for Elee's Seizure Alert Service Dog This puts her at greater risk for SUDEP and prolonged seizures that can cause permanent damage.

Our daughter Eleanor was diagnosed with refractory epilepsy at 9 months old after we found her unresponsive in her car seat. She spent the next 39 days inpatient at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta (CHOA) and Medical University of SC (MUSC). Despite Elee being on 6 medications twice a day and a strict ketogenic diet for Epilepsy, she continues to have clustered seizures in her sleep. She has spent

close to half of her life battling seizures now yet remains so happy and resilient. The medical community does not expect Elee to grow out of her seizures so we are raising money for a seizure alert service dog. This dog will alert us when she is having a seizure so we can wake up and react quickly, giving Elee the best chance of full recovery. We will hopefully never find her in her crib or carseat not knowing how long she has been having seizures. If her seizures evolve to wake times, the dog will protect her by laying her down safely to protect from injury and provide comfort during and after episodes while alerting an adult. Seizure alert dogs cost $20,000 to the family. There is also a 2-2.5 year waiting list once we pay in full for the dog so this is just the beginning of our journey. We have chosen to work with a reputable company, 4 Paws for Ability, they were featured in the Netflix series Dogs in episode one. While we know this won’t cure Elee’s seizures, we hope it will give her the best chance and offer her comfort post seizures. We know this is ALOT of money for a dog but after speaking with a family who lost their daughter to SUDEP they encouraged us to not think twice. We have also spoken with two families that have seizure alert dogs and swear by their dog's ability to detect and alert for seizures. Paws for Elee 5K will be tentatively on November 4th at Saluda Shoals Park. There will be a 5k race and a 1 mile fun walk. Bring the whole family and your furry pup to run or cheer on the racers as we raise money and awareness for her service dog. More information to come as dates are
finalized. If you are interested in making a donation or sponsoring the 5k please reach out to me directly, Hilary Bassett, 803-260-7581. If you would like to donate to us through PayPal, https://www.paypal.com/pools/c/8V29VwM9DR or you can donate directly online go to https://4pawsforability.org/donate-to-4-paws but you must state the donation is for Eleanor Bassett. I can also mail checks to them. We will have a site that encompasses all of this soon. We thank God everyday for seizure free days and full recovery on other days. We have been so blessed with an amazing community and can never thank each of you enough for caring and loving our sweet Elee. God Bless You and Thank You,
Hilary and Erick Bassett

Hey! I didn’t realize when I deleted the fb app it would disconnect from the Paws for Elee instagram page. That’s where I do daily updates on her care and progress! We heard that she will not be getting her dog until END of 2025 which is extremely disappointing but God is making sure she has the perfect dog at the perfect time.

She had a really rough May with sickness and seizures and had 9 inpatient days at Prisma but June has been good to us! She is truly SUPER ELEE!! We head back to MUSC tomorrow.

I will try to link the accounts again but head on over to instagram and follow her account for everyday Elee 🙂

SILENT AUCTION POST FOR RARE DISEASE DAY.
THIS IS THE POST TO PLACE BIDS ON.

Today is Rare Disease Day, Feb 29th, the rarest day of all! Ring 14 Syndrome is wildly rare. Elee is the only person in SC and there are only 2 dozen or so in the USA ! Raising awareness of the condition helps people want to know more which drives research and potentially cures and treatments. Elee's condition is not treatable or curable at this time in history but I manage her symptoms and seizures. This leads to a lot of medications, therapies, and traveling! All of these things have really helped Elee progress further than was ever expected so the possibilities are endless!

To help offset these costs, we have 2 amazing tools donated by Carolina Honda to auction off to help with Elee's care expenses. This "silent fb auction" will only be 24 hours long on Feb 29th.

You will simply comment which one you would like to bid on and your bid amount. Pictures of Elee trying them out below haha

At the end of the day, 11:59pm, bidding will be "closed" and the highest number wins! I will tag the winner and contact them.

If you DM or text me your bid amount, I will comment on the post with your initials and bid amount.

Delivery in the Greater Columbia, Myrtle Beach, Charleston, or Greenville area can be arranged but no shipping. Local pickup to West Columbia or Lexington is also an option.

Check, Cash, Venmo, or paypal

Please tag your friends that love yard work or share.

This Thursday, leap day, is also Rare Disease Day! While epilepsy is not very rare, refractory epilepsy and Ring 14 Syndrome are! Ring 14 Syndrome is VERY rare. Chances are, you will hopefully never meet someone else with Ring 14. To celebrate, we are doing a SPRING SILENT AUCTION!

Carolina Honda has donated two AMAZING powertools for me to auction off and use the money towards Elee's care ad medical traveling expenses. Now that spring is around the corner, what better time to get your yard in shape while benefitting our sweet Elee! Thank you Carolina Honda for donating these and loving sweet Elee!!

RULES: On Thursday, Feb 29th, I will have a separate post for the "silent auction". If you would like to "bid" on the powertool, you can comment or private message your bid amount and which one ( they will be labeled 1 and 2). Auction will be closed at midnight on Thursday and I will reach out to whoever wins!

*I cannot ship them, but I will meet anyone in the greater Columbia, Greenville, or Charleston area to drop them off. You can pay cash, check, paypal, or venmo!

https://powerequipment.honda.com/trimmers/models/hht35sltat and https://powerequipment.honda.com/trimmers/models/hht35sukat are the two items we will have for auction!

Elee is officially a BIG cousin and she is so in love with Baby Wells! She’s OBSESSED with babies and taking care of her babies ( all 80 of them) so I can’t wait to see her love and care for him and grow up together! Congratulations and on a beautiful, happy, and healthy baby!

Elee’s 2nd bday toy drive is still going on through the rest of the month! Two local businesses are also joining in donating new toys, books, games and more to Prisma Health Children’s Hospital-Midlands hospitalized children!

Blush Boutique has Ruby’s kissing booth this Saturday where you can donate items or simply donate to buy toys while enjoying Ruby and shopping at Blush!

Cola Stacks has chosen to make this the January giveback bracelet! 50% of bracelet proceeds go towards buying the gifts on the wishlist! They have a super cute toddler and kid version too.

Thank you all for helping other kids the way Elee has been helped. I am blown away by everyone’s continued generosity and hope to be able to do this toy drive annually in honor of Elee’s birthday!

All donations need to be new per hospital protocol. There is also an Amazon wishlist if you want to send something straight to the hospital but we would love to see you too 🙂
You can also drop off donations at All American Heating and Air until the end of the month.

It has been a rough last week for sweet Elee. Last Wednesday, she was hospitalized from seizures, flu, and pneumonia. Having illnesses like that lowers her seizure threshold. Today, I woke up at 4:40AM to Elee having seizures but she recovered at home and did really well all day today! She is so resilient and strong!

This last hospital stay was shorter than normal but seemed harder. Child life services at Children’s Hospital was kind enough to stop by and give me a hand. They brought Elee some sweet toys she was able to keep and bring home. If you have kids, you know there is nothing like getting fun NEW toys. I remember one of Elee's first PICU stays, they gave her a tutu to wear and it was the most beautiful moments after seeing her only in a hospital gown for so long. The books, toys, and stickers have all made her hospital stays better.

Elee turns two this month and I would love to celebrate her bday by collecting new toys for the children's hospital in Columbia. You can order from their Amazon list to ship directly to the hospital, drop off gifts at our house, or All American Heating and Air. There is a wishlist and amazon link attached and in bio.

Thank you for celebrating with us and cheering on all the other warriors at Childrens!
