We are way Overdue for an Update on our Hunnybutt Honey Shop!!! So after getting the charming old Bee house all fixed/cleaned up & ready to open the Honey shop we encountered the reality that we would need to blow out multiple doorways throughout the house to the required width as well as the bathroom would need completely rearranged. The Bee house is part of historic downtown Farmington and was built in 1941 we couldn’t with a clear conscious tear apart this very originally intact house & historical landmark. So we have shifted gears a little…. We will sill have HunnyButt Honey & Bee Thru Life at 311 N Auburn Farmington NM. We are now gutting & completely redoing the detached garage to create our Honey Shop exactly how we want & up to code for all to come shop, talk bees & enjoy!! We are so excited to bring some amazing local honey, beekeeping experience & especially for hands on learning for our local youth with our 501c3 nonprofit Bee Thru Life to Farmington!! We will try to keep updates going through construction.

Swarm Number 4 for the season!!! Soo excited to get the message from Melissa to our HunnyButt Honey page that they had a swarm in their backyard that had been there since Friday afternoon!! I think with the bad weather they just hunkered down. They were very docile so I didn’t feel the need for a suit although one snuck up my shirt she was safely let out & the shirt was then tucked 😂 for this relocation. Not the best video but I was solo so tailgate prop it was 😁 They were definitely happy to get into the hive with some drawn out frames, honey & pollen. 🙌🏻🐝🩷 Please remember if you see this & need a swarm gathered please call or message me 5054021450

I was working at our HunnyButt Honey Bee house on Auburn & got a call from Niki Hilbers for another swarm!! Lucky for us this one was just minutes away & nice & low in a garden bed!! It was a gentle catch & I was able to find the queen put her into a queen clip to keep her there so all the rest of the bees would follow. We will pick them up in just a bit & move them to the apiary!! 🐝🙌🏻

Had an Awesome Bee Talk today for 70 Kindergarteners!! They were great listeners & had some really great questions!! Teaching kids about honeybees, pollinators & beekeeping is my passion & I am blessed to be able to do it daily!! 🐝🩷 Would you like a bee talk for your class!?!? Well I was incredibly Lucky to get another swarm call this evening from an awesome beekeeper!! So thankful to The Happy Pear Honey and Produce for introducing me to Kyle Harris!! Meeting other beekeepers who will share a swarm is not always the case but Kyle is such a cool dude!!! When I say Bee Karma is Real this is what I mean… Put good out in the bee world & it will come back to you 10 fold!! Thank you for the big beautiful swarm Kyle they filled up the entire hive!! ✌🏻🐝🫶🏻

Queen Piping - By a newly hatched virgin queen

🐝✨ Be sure to listen!! This is a loud pulsating sound produced by a queen honey bee, usually to signal their presence, challenge rival queens, or announce an imminent swarm. This noise is created by vibrating flight muscles while pressing the thorax against the comb. 👑🐝

(Also the new queen is slightly marked with white, I lightly marked her to mainly see if she makes it back from her mating flight.)
