Whenever we go out adventuring, there are always a few items I ensure I have with us:
RexSpecs: In the Nevada sunshine, it is always on my mind how we can protect our dog's eyes. In addition to this, I also value our goggles as a means to protect against rough terrain and debris in the case of an accident. There have been so many times when the dogs have gotten a little too excited and not fully watched where they were going. The specs even serves as an easy way to locate one of the dogs immediately if we are in an area where they can be let free to roam further out.
Harnesses: While I am not fond of using harnesses for leash control, I still highly value them as safety devices in a pinch. They've enabled us to lift the dogs in tricky situations when outdoors. They've been incredibly helpful in quickly lifting the dogs up when rushed by off leash dogs or stopping them when they come a little close to the local cacti. We also always look for harnesses that fit nicely and do not limit mobility or chafe.
Aside from these and more routine things, I also always like to pack a small emergency kit, a back-up leash, and flexible water bowls.
