ARE YOU A RESCUE/SHELTER THAT HAS CLOSED ITS INTAKE?
Every day we are seeing more of the dedicated and hardworking people in the animal welfare industry having to make this heartwrenching announcement. Just the other day, I just saw a couple of rescues I follow, post their intake was closed effective immediately. We actually had to close our intake in New Orleans :(
Yesterday I saw another rescue that we had helped in the past, bashing us to make themselves seem more needy than us. My first reaction was to get mad but then I read between the lines...animal rescues/shelters are desperate. So much in that it has become survival of the fittest. So I forgave them.
There is no one answer to solve this problem. Oh sure, the obvious is "spay/neuter" and we agree, but wake up people...we are dealing with the NOW. Dogs tied to our gates on a daily basis. Dogs thrown over our fences. Even with a closed intake, the dogs still keep coming.
So donating to your favorite rescue/shelter has almost become competitive. We are all scrambling and begging with the same "sales pitch" and every rescue/shelter out there is deserving of your donations. We are no better than any of them. But we are all in the same sinking boat.
The intake has quadrupled and the donations have almost come to a complete halt. Those "handful" of you that continue to donate...you are the lifesavers in all of this.
When donating to ANY rescue or shelter, just know that it is appreciated and needed beyond any words that I could type out. But if you should choose to donate to us, it would mean the world.
