Welcome Stork to our lil rescue! We often post the happy sides of rescue, like perfect adoptions and happy endings. It is not often we post on here about the struggles of what it is truly like working in the field.
For instance, this is Stork. We saw him on the streets at night and noticed he looked absolutely horrendous, so we jumped into action. We worked tirelessly to trap him alongside a friend, he was so afraid of human hands. He was even afraid of cars and would run at the sight of one.
Last night we were able to successfully trap him. He had his vet visit today, and boy oh boy what a ride. Immediately we noticed something was wrong with his mouth. It was like there were strings tied around his teeth, with so much gunk and infection attached. His whole mouth was inflamed. The doctor pulled CLUMPS of hair out of his gums. We’ve never seen anything like it. Then they got to see his teeth and determined he was at least 10 years old, and had a severe bacterial infection spreading from how long this hair was wound up in his mouth. He is super lethargic because of all of this, plus the typical flea dermatitis, worms and upper respiratory infection from not having proper care. His whiskers are sliced in half, his legs are covered in wounds. His sight is already fading from age, and now his eyes are masked with mucus. His body is dirty, his spirit is weak.
I mean, 10 years alone. 10 years. Struggling. Hoping for the day someone will notice you, but also living in fear that the wrong person will.
But somehow, within an hour of us sitting on the floor with him, he decided it was time to give in.
Stork, welcome to your new life. Warm hugs, gentle pets, and continuative care for the rest of your life.
I can’t wait for the day he gets cleared for adoption and gets his own family. 😭❤️
