Responsible breeding starts with responsible choices 🐾

Spaying and neutering pet cats, domestics, crossbreeds and non-active pedigree cats is incredibly important.

Responsible breeding involves health testing, understanding genetics, researching lines, temperament and overall welfare, not simply producing kittens.

Crossbreeding without that knowledge can unintentionally increase health risks rather than reduce them.

At the heart of it, this is about protecting cats, preventing accidental litters, and giving future kittens the best possible start ❤️

🐾 Introducing committee member Danny Balmer 🐾

Danny grew up in a cat-loving household, with his mum being a true cat fanatic. After meeting and marrying his wife Stacey, who shared that same love for cats, he says it only a matter of time before the cat world became a big part of life.

Danny is an active member of the GCCF and the Stewardship Scheme, and is always keen to learn more, gain experience, and support the wider cat fancy. He is also a proud breeder of the Maine C**n and can be found at https://www.facebook.com/Townhillmainecoonireland/

He has a particular soft spot for his young Maine C**n kitten, Katniss, the pair can often be seen out causing mischief on little adventures, whether that’s walks in her backpack or camping trips in Donegal.

Danny loves show days, in particular catching up with old friends, meeting new people, and learning something new each time. It’s that friendly, welcoming side of the cat fancy that he really enjoys.

His message to everyone reading this is if you’re thinking about coming along to a show, getting involved, or simply want to know more, please do come and say hello at the next event. New faces are always welcome 🤍🐾

Cats are experts at hiding pain and illness — it’s a natural survival instinct inherited from their wild ancestors.

That’s why even small changes can matter:
• sleeping more than usual
• hiding away
• changes in appetite
• grooming less (or more)
• acting quieter than normal

🐾 Venue Search – Northern Ireland Cat Club 🐾

As many of you know, the NICC Show has continued to grow year after year, and we’re now at the point where we’ve sadly outgrown our current Hillsborough venue.

We’re therefore beginning the search for a new hall within the Hillsborough / Belfast / Greater Belfast area for future Northern Ireland Cat Club shows.

We’re ideally looking for a venue with:
• A larger open hall space suitable for a cat show
• Good parking and easy unloading access
• Ground floor or accessible entry
• Space for exhibitors, judging areas, spectators and traders
• Toilet and kitchen/catering facilities
• Weekend availability
• Permission for animal events

If anyone knows of suitable venues, event halls, leisure centres, community venues or exhibition spaces we would genuinely love to hear from you.

Adult cats actually don’t meow to each other very much…

They mostly developed meowing as a way to communicate with humans 🤍

So when your cat is shouting at you from the kitchen, answering back to your conversations, or demanding treats at 3am… they’re technically talking to you 😂🐱
