Here’s a story still in the works and we’d like to share it with you. This precious cat was found with several strays in a trailer park in the Dickerson Pike area of Nashville. He (along with the others) were taken to Pet Community Center where one of our incredible fosters works. Sadly, his hind quarters were paralyzed and he was only dragging himself. Add to this he was oh so thin and literally eaten up with ticks. Pet CommunityCenter ( which is primarily a spay/ neuter clinic) could only offer humane euthanasia, but when we were contacted about accepting him, we felt he deserved a chance and further evaluation. His name is now Lieutenant Dan and his story is unfolding.

Upon examination at our vet, we learned he had no broken bones and could urinate and defecate with no problem. Lieutenant Dan clearly has a will to live, and we have a will to give him that chance. Our vet started him on steroids and antibiotics and had serious conversation with us about quality of life if his legs did not improve.

I am elated to say, in the last couple of days, he has begun to use his legs a bit. We have added laser therapy to his rehabilitation and all of this seems to be working. Some would say he’s just a stray cat, but in my humble opinion, he is a precious life failed by a human. Our goal is to give every pet we rescue every medical opportunity available. Being a stray doesn’t make his life less valuable.

Abigail is a soft hearted, easy going girl. She can be slow to warm up to men and will need someone who is patient and understanding that it may take a few weeks for her to feel comfortable in her new home. Abigail came to us severely malnourished and had lived her life on a chain. Abigail was heartworm positive. She has been treated for heartworms and is now a healthy, heartworm negative girl.
She enjoys playing with other dogs large or small. Loves to be with her humans. Soft and delicate, Abigail is crate trained and has had no accidents lately.
She does great on car rides.
Abigail is wonderful!!

Completed Treatment of Heartworms (tested positive)
Maintained on monthly flea/tick prevention
ProHeart 12 Injection after completing Heartworm Treatment (prevention that lasts 1 year in the body)

If you’ve been searching for a sweet boy that was made for snuggles, Yeti Spaghetti is the boy for you! Yeti was abandoned by his family after a house fire and is ready for his new forever home. He loves being around his humans and will greet you at the door and always be by your side. He loves cuddling and playing with other cats, but he thinks dogs are a little too scary.

Tiggs is the most tolerant cat and bound to become your new best buddy. Suffering from FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) this boy will follow you around everywhere, and just wants to be included in on all the action. Despite his size, he makes an excellent lap cat and doesn’t mind being carried around like the big baby he is. Tiggs enjoys spending his day alongside you lounging, or with his sister Peeka. Tiggs gets along great with other cats and dogs, although may act like a big fraidy cat at first. He also does great with kids, because let’s be honest, he doesn’t discriminate when it comes to attention. Tiggs enjoys endless pets and will roll over for some serious belly rubs. He does great being bathed and groomed, doesn’t mind a claw trim when he needs one. Tiggs isn’t picky when it comes to food (there’s a reason he was 20lbs when he first joined Proverbs) and will be open to trying anything, although his foster family has him on a grain free/salmon diet for his coat. If you are looking for a happy happy puppy Bryce is your guy ! He loves people and is potty trained ! He is great with other dogs but does need time to warm up. :) He loves his toys but is so good about not chewing on other things ! He is so sweet and loves sitting in the sun ! He would make an amazing addition to a family ❤️

Patsy is a gorgeous girl.. easily could be a calendar cat. This beauty is shy initially (as in a couple of weeks) but once she feels secure, she is your best pal. She's a quiet and observant girl. Watching the world go by while calmly resting is her style. Patsy would do best in a quiet home. Please consider giving this kitty a forever home.

This sweet girl is Hattie! Her sister Haidyn and Hattie came to us as strays. The finder tried and tried to locate the owners with no luck. So, they more than likely were dumped. Hattie is such a love bug. She can be bashful at first, but in no time she wants to be your friend. She is good with other dogs and cats. We think she would do great with kids and would love a fur friend to play with. Hattie is just now learning what a leash is so she will need some patience with that. This beauty is ready for her forever home!

Dallas is a very happy go lucky guy. He has high energy in bursts but also loves to cuddle and relax. Dallas is good with kids and dogs. He knows these basic commands when on leash: stay, sit, down, place, recall, heel, break, and yes. Dallas will be a great companion for an active or relaxed family.

Meet Haidyn! Her sister Hattie and Haidyn came to us as strays. The finder tried and tried to find the owners with no luck. So, we narrowed it down to they more than likely were dumped. Haidyn is shy one out of the two. But so so so sweet!! They are learning what a leash is. They are great with other dogs and cats. I think she would do fine in any home setting. She would benefit from having a friend to help her come out of her shell. I think she would do great with kids too. Shes a sweet girl who will just need a little time and patience but will come around. Overall this beautiful girl is ready for her forever home!

Proverbs will provide food, crate, and medical care. They even provide transport for your foster if you cannot get to adoption day or vetting appointments.

Your first step is to complete the foster application which also functions as our adoption application(incase you realize your new foster might be at HOME with you). Please understand that a vet check will take place when you apply to make sure your personal pets are fixed and up to date on all needed vetting.

Tahani enjoys chasing cat toys. Tahani is very interested in being pet and will make his needs shown. Tahani is fond of sleeping with the humans in the house and will oftentimes be content to just lay down near one. Tahani has acclimated to our house pack of canines and felines. Tahani would do well in an active home, or in a home where the owners enjoy engaging cats. He shows no fear of dogs, and is close with our most confident cats, so could be added to an existing pack.

Oakley is full of personality! He has an adorable pompom shape on the end of his tail and the pattern of a tree ring in the fur on his side. Oakley enjoys playing but will also give you space. He will not be constantly at your feet and in the middle of your work papers, but he will gladly play when it’s time. Oakley would do well in a home with another cat. He is used to dogs in his foster home and is ok with calm dogs. He loves kitten churu treats and toy mice! Due to an eye issue when he was a very young kitten, his right eye will always appear a little smaller like he's winking at you.
