HAPPY UPDATE!

We trapped the dog that had been seen in the area of Conklin Rd in Conklin this evening.😊

She has been in the area at least 13 days and was very skittish but she found a safe area to stay. The property owner was very kind and started leaving food and water out for her. She is very thin!

A feeding station was set yesterday and she ate there last night. We set a trap this morning, which we had held open so she could go in and get food and be comfortable doing so. She made her way in this afternoon so we returned to set it to trip and she went in a couple hours later.

She is very scared but I am sure she will be very happy to be out of the cold weather tonight!

The dog is now in the care of the Broome County Dog Shelter.

POPPY UPDATE!

This is Poppy the extremely terrified Korean meat market dog that became lost from her new home that Jamie and I trapped. She was on the run for 5 months and traveled from Candor to Windsor.

Project Paws was a God send by taking her in and working with her for 9 months while she was in a foster home and she learned to be a dog and trust. It was a slow and extremely patient process. Then care was taken to find the perfect home to fit her needs; with another dog which is what she needed to help show her the ropes.

Behind the Scenes at Granite State Dog Recovery

What you often see is a poster… and then a dog safely in a trap.
What you don’t always see is everything in between.

Countless hours go into each recovery — meeting with families, securing property owner permission, setting up and monitoring cameras, placing food, and replacing it daily. There are camera malfunctions, late-night alerts, constant calls and texts, and careful planning happening around the clock.

We don’t share every step publicly — not because we’re hiding anything — but because keeping things quiet helps keep the dog safe. This work isn’t about us. It’s about protecting the dog’s well-being and giving them the best chance to come home safely.

Thank you for trusting the process and understanding the silence when it’s needed most.
Fingers crossed we’ll be sharing some reunion photos very soon.

Good news!

We assisted Conklin Dog Control in trapping two dogs last evening/night that were dumped in a very rural area.

The dog had been staying in a wooded area and food had been put out for them so they would stay in the area. When we arrived they were very scared and did a lot of barking and running further into the woods.

We set 2 traps and left the area to see if they would check them out. The little black dog was in the trap within 15 minutes!

The other dog was very confused when her buddy was taken to the shelter and started hanging around the road waiting for the dog and her family to come back. It was heartbreaking to see.

She did check out the trap later but wasn't sure about going in. Fortunately, she got the courage up around 10 pm.

Both dogs are now safe at the Broome County Dog Shelter.

🫤 These are the 3rd and 4th dogs we have trapped in the last 7 days! Three of the dogs are definitely drop offs; the other one is very likely a drop off also.

It is extremely frustrating that dog owners who are no longer able to care for their dogs (for whatever reason, and I don't judge) feel the need to resort to this. I know the County shelter is filled to capacity. Something has got to give. My thoughts are no shelters should be bringing in any dogs from out of the area to be adopted out until we can take care if those in our area first. It is only common sense. I know the BCDS does not bring dogs in from out of the area.

HAPPY NEWS!

We assisted Town of Union Dog Control with a very scared, skittish dog that had been reported running the area of N. Kelly and Lawndale St for the past couple of days. The dog was so scared it would run if anyone tried to approach it. The dog was smart and found shelter under a shed in the area.

Yesterday I brought a trap and had it held open to see if the dog would go in. He finally showed up after 2 am but likely didn't find any food left after a visit by a cat and opossum.

I went down to set the trap this morning and he must have been close by (under the shed?) because he went in the trap within 15 minutes after I set it.

He seems to be a sweet little dog and was just very scared. I am sure he is happy to be warm and safe!

He is now in the care of the Broome County Dog Shelter.

HAPPY NEWS!

The little dog that had been seen in the area of Upper Bevier St in Kirkwood since 11/20 has been safely trapped this evening.

Thank you to the kind homeowner for putting food and water out for her and helping her to stay in the area.

Given the area she was found and had been staying, it is very likely she was dumped. There has not been any reports of a missing dog like this.

She will be cared for by the Broome County Dog Shelter.

HAPPY UPDATE!

Roxy is finally safe after becoming lost 14 days ago!

Roxy was a newly adopted when she managed to break free from her leash. The owners put food out for her and she stayed in the area of her new house which was great. She was skittish to begin with and they were unable to get her.

We set a trap in the area which was held open so that she could acclimate to going inside. This is especially important with a very skittish dog: even though it takes longer.

Roxy was slowly making her way in to the trap to eat and we needed to be patient and work on her terms. Unfortunately, on Friday 12/7 she was at the trap area and crossed the road to stay in the woods, which was her pattern, she was struck by a car! She did get up and run away on all 4 legs and had no visible injuries.

There was no sightings for 2 days and we were a bit concerned she may have succumbed to internal injuries.

We ended up with a sighting about 1/4 miles away. We went to the area and saw Roxy but of course we knew we wouldn't be able to get her. Another trap was set (and held open) but he never went to the area.

A couple of days later she made her way back to the area of her new home. The trap was was baited again and she stayed and entered it to eat the food at the far end which was need in order to set the trap.

This afternoon we set the trap and this evening she went in and BOOM she was safely trapped!

She is now back home and resting comfortably with her family.

We are all breathing a sighting of relief tonight that she is safe!

Thank you to all of the neighbors who did as asked and reported any sightings of Roxy directly to the owners and not post them on social media. The support of the neighbors was greatly appreciated!
