Happy First Birthday to Banjo, Bilbo, and Bongo! 🥳

These three came in as tiny kittens with their mom, Bananas, last summer, and have been with us ever since. Hopefully they can each get a family for their birthday!! 🙏

Here is a little bit about them:

Banjo and Bongo are inseparable sisters. Banjo is the snuggler of the two, and is always ready for a lap to sleep on and a person to cuddle with. Bongo is themore playful of the two, and enjoys enrichment in the form of looking at birds out the window and playing with toys. Both girls will be extremely excited to greet you when you come home- Banjo because she will get attention, and Bongo because she will get food!

Bilbo is a little more on the shy side, but when she feels comfortable, she is a perfect companion! She loves being in the same room as you and will help with any task. She will chirp and meow at you when it is time to play or eat, and will snuggle with you at night.

All three of these wonderful girls are waiting for their forever homes. Could it be yours?

❤️🐾❤️ Google, 5 1/2 months old and vetting completed, still available for adoption, has the right idea—he thinks the best way to spend a day like this is with a cozy catnap and some serious snuggles. 🐾💤

Daffodil wore herself out at our latest volunteer meeting! 😴😻

Everything we are able to accomplish is due to the incredibly selfless work of our fosters and volunteers. We have zero paid employees and are 100 % foster based, so we literally CANNOT do it without them!!!

Pepper came to us last week. Pepper fortunately for us and unfortunate for her, is a very seasoned mama. ( She is gram-a to the Pastries) We promised her, this would be her very last time. Foster Mom Kaye has been on baby watch since last Thursday! As of late Sunday afternoon and into the evening, The Spice Rack arrived! ❤️

This family is 5 weeks old and doing fabulously! Foster Mom , Kate Kohrs, is so excited. Her charges have been using the litter box for a week now and starting to think Mama’s food is interesting. Thank goodness! This little group of 5 are always hungry! Mama Rose is an awesome obliging mom. She deserves a little break. 🤣

Daffodil is definitely not a wallflower! This super fun and interactive young lady is bursting with personality and ready to be the life of your home. She’s curious, confident, and absolutely must be involved in everything happening around her. Nothing escapes her attention!

❤️🐾❤️ This is Abby. She volunteers with us after school, and this is her third visit.
Hans has been waiting 15 months for his forever family. He’s incredibly handsome, with those dreamy lovey eyes that look straight into your heart.
At first Meet and Greets, Hans chooses to observe—quietly taking everything in. But once he decides you’re safe? Watch out. He’ll chase you down, body slam your legs, and smother you with all the love he’s been holding in.
This is why volunteer visits matter so much. Caregivers work hard to meet the basic needs of every cat, but time for slow, meaningful social interaction can be limited. Volunteers like Abby help cats like Hans build trust, come out of their shells, and shine. It helps ready them for adoption.

This is great advice when engaging with kittens. We are able to condition behaviors from the start. ❤️❤️❤️

To release the cat's grasp, don't pull away. Instead, stop movement for a second and then gently push toward the cat's mouth. This creates confusion and your cat should let go. To prevent this from happening in the future, always use an interactive toy when playing wit your cat. Your fingers should never be used as toys.

While some cats enjoy the feeling of being held or hugged, many prefer to keep their paws firmly planted on solid ground. Even those who do like being carried often have clear preferences for how they are positioned in your arms. It's important to respect each cat’s individual boundaries because even the most affectionate felines may resist forced closeness. Keep in mind that hugging is not a natural behavior among animals, and some cats may find it uncomfortable or stressful. Always supervise interactions between cats and children, who may unintentionally squeeze too tightly or miss subtle signs that a cat is feeling overwhelmed.

For cats who aren’t fond of being hugged, there are plenty of other ways to show affection that feel safer and more enjoyable for them. You can gradually help a cat become more comfortable with being held using positive reinforcement and gentle, patient handling. This training can be invaluable for practical situations like placing a cat in a carrier for travel or medical visits. However, success depends entirely on your approach. Never force it. Prioritize being gentle and move at the cat’s pace. Always let the cat have the choice. Even a cat who enjoys being held may not enjoy being hugged.
