Makin' Biscuits Rescuary Inc Animal Rescue We also provide education to the public about felines. They are all beautiful creatures to us and we are here for them.

We are a small foster based rescue in the Tampa Bay area, whose purpose is to retrieve felines from kill shelters, neglected situations and owner surrenders; provide basic needs (food/water, temporary shelter and veterinary care); rehabilitating and rehoming so that they may live out their natural lives as pets. We are currently focusing on the “overlooked” felines due to various reasons, such as

age, manageable medical conditions or just for the mere fact that they are not as “pretty” or fluffy as another.

How Cold Is Too Cold for Cats?

• Even when indoors, cats can feel chilly at temperatures that are comfortable for us.

• Outdoor temperatures below 45 degrees Fahrenheit are dangerous tor cats.

• Prolonged exposure to temperatures below 32 degrees Fahrenheit can lead to frostbite and hypothermia in cats.

• Signs that your cat is cold include seeking warm spots; curling up tightly; and in extreme cases shivering, which may lessen as hypothermia sets in.

Cats can get cold easily—even indoors. Learn how cold is too cold for cats, signs of hypothermia, and how to keep them safe and warm this winter.

As much as we wish they could stay kittens forever, cats age much faster than us! Your cat is considered a senior around 10 to 12 years old. Since cats hide discomfort so well, we need to be extra vigilant. Knowing what to look for can make their golden years much more comfortable.

Key Signs of Aging and When to Call the Vet:

Keep an eye out for mobility changes. If you notice your cat hesitating before jumping, struggling to use stairs, or a general change in their gait. Watch their weight and thirst, too. Unexplained weight loss or excessive thirst/urination can be early warning signs of common senior diseases like chronic kidney disease or diabetes. Finally, look at their fur. A grooming decline or matted fur often means stiffness is making it difficult or painful for them to clean themselves.

Simple Care Adjustments You Can Make Today:

Senior cats should see the vet for twice yearly exams, as their health can change quickly. For their comfort, provide easily accessible, warm, and soft beds, and consider using ramps or steps to help them reach their favorite sleeping spot safely. When it comes to feeding, try raising their food and water bowls a few inches off the floor. This simple adjustment makes eating much easier on stiff necks and joints.

If your cat is 10 or older, check your records to see if they are due for a senior wellness exam! A few small changes can mean a world of difference for their comfort.

It is the only surgery performed strictly for the owner’s convenience, never the patient’s benefit. 💔

Let’s be clear about what this really is. It isn’t a manicure.

It isn’t a trim. It is an amputation of the last knuckle, changing the way they walk, stretch, and defend themselves forever.

A scratched sofa is an annoyance. A lifetime of chronic pain and defenselessness is a tragedy.

If you love them, you love their claws too. Buy a scratching post, trim their nails, or use sticky tape.

But please, never ask them to pay for your furniture with their knuckles. 🐾🚫

Dental disease is one of the most common illnesses in adult cats, and it is far more serious than just bad breath. Untreated infections in the mouth can spread to the rest of the body.

Bacteria from tooth and gum disease can travel through the bloodstream and damage vital organs like the heart, kidneys, and liver. It is painful! Your cat may stop eating or chew only on one side because their mouth hurts.

If your cat has visibly red gums, seems hesitant to eat dry food, or has noticeable bad breath, please schedule a dental check up with your veterinarian.

Ensure your vet looks at their teeth during every annual exam. Try introducing cat dental treats or water additives recommended by your vet.

We often think of microchips as a one time thing, but they are your cat's absolute best chance of finding their way home if they slip out the door! It is a tiny chip, about the size of a grain of rice, placed quickly and painlessly under their skin. It is a permanent identification number that can’t be removed like a collar.

The microchip is useless if the registration details are old! Did you move? Change your cell number? If you haven't updated your information with the microchip registry, that ID number leads nowhere.

Please take five minutes today to find your microchip paperwork or log in online to check that your name, current phone number, and address are linked to your cat's chip number. It is the most important five minutes you can spend protecting your fur baby!

If you’ve noticed your cat scooping food out of their bowl with their paw or leaving the edges of their meal untouched while begging for more, they might not be acting fussy. They could be experiencing "Whisker Fatigue," a common but often overlooked form of sensory overload.

A cat’s whiskers are incredibly sensitive, packed with nerve endings that send constant signals to the brain. When they have to stick their face into a deep, narrow bowl, their whiskers hit the sides repeatedly. For many cats, this constant friction is stressful or even painful to endure during every meal.

You can usually tell if your cat is struggling if they drop food on the floor to eat, pace hesitantly before starting, or seem frustrated by a bowl that still looks half-full.

Luckily, the fix is incredibly simple! By swapping out deep dishes for a wide, flat plate or a shallow saucer, you allow their whiskers to stay clear of the edges.
