The beauty of working with experienced teams is that you can set some unexpected problems for them to solve without fear of ‘breaking the dog’. These photos show a trail where the misper swam off into the loch; a trail where the misper was buried; and a free trail that ended at the waters edge where the misper rowed out into the loch, so the dog swapped from trailing to airscent and swam out to the boat.

I’ve had the privilege of working with Jackson since he was 8 weeks old. I remember his off lead puppy trails well, even at that age he demonstrated strong commitment to the trail. Jackson has come a long way since then, which was particularly evident last week when Colin was too ill to attend the Tracker School I organised with Alis Dobler. Jackson did really well, away from his dad, and being worked by a completely unknown handler (the accomplished Marco Bisang), his focus still remained on following the scent trail and finding the misper. Nice work big fella, it was a joy to watch 🐾🐾
