Yoga as Freedom

Yoga is much more than a physical exercise or a series of postures. It is a transformative practice that offers a path to freedom—freedom from fear, anguish, and loneliness. Indra Devi, a renowned yoga teacher, once said, "Yoga is a way to freedom. By its constant practice, we can free ourselves from fear, anguish, and loneliness." These profound words capture the essence of yoga as a means to liberation and inner peace.

In today's fast-paced and often stressful world, we often find ourselves trapped in the grip of fear, overwhelmed by anxiety, and burdened by a sense of isolation. Yoga provides a sanctuary, a sacred space where we can escape the turmoil of our thoughts and emotions and reconnect with our true selves.
Through the practice of yoga, we learn to observe and understand our inner world. We become aware of the patterns of fear that hold us back, the anxieties that limit our potential, and the loneliness that separates us from others. With this awareness, we gain the power to transform these negative states into positive ones.

As we step onto the mat, we connect with a community of like-minded individuals, united in their pursuit of well-being and self-discovery. Yoga classes whether online or in-person become a gathering of souls, a place where we feel seen, heard, and supported. The practice of yoga transcends the boundaries of language, culture, and background, fostering a sense of belonging and interconnectedness.

By consistently engaging in the practice of yoga, we embark on a journey of self-realization, enabling us to experience the inherent freedom and wholeness that reside within us.

Ultimately, yoga as freedom is an invitation to explore the vast landscape of our being, to discover our limitless potential, and to embrace life with open arms. As we step off the mat and into the world, we carry the essence of yoga with us. When we change ourselves we change the world.

Good news, cat owners! Your little feline could be fighting off heart disease for you. Studies have found that people with cats were 40% less likely to have a fatal heart attack. It’s unclear whether the cat’s calming effects make the difference or whether people who choose cats as pets are less at risk for heart disease to begin with. Either way, if you’re a cat person, you’re in luck! (It’s possible that dogs have similar benefits, but the study was only done on cat owners.)

Happy Earth Day!
Appreciate the earth as your pets do! Take a moment outside today to breathe in the air. Play in the sun. Go for a walk or hike. Dig in the soil. Appreciate the animals. Thank the earth for what is does to sustain you.

Transforming Pet Grief: For those of us who consider our animals part of the family, the grief we feel when we have to say goodbye can be profound and overwhelming.
I am honored to partner with my friend and colleague, Elizabeth Wallace  to offer a program we have created that will help people navigate their grief journey, to know peace and comfort--while connecting with joy again. There are many types of loss that we and our pets can experience throughout our lives from loss of a companion pet, to loss of
an owner or caretaker or other family member or friend. Pets,
like people, mourn the loss of a loved one and may become depressed and sad.

Grief is associated with the lungs and large intestine. Therefore, a pet who has lost a human companion or another pet in the household may benefit from using oils that support these organs.

My boy Chan(gray) was very sad and experienced a flare up of a digestive issue when Skylar (orange) transitioned. I supported him with essential oils during this challenging times.

Healthcare Savings and Pet Ownership
Vets have recently obtained quantitative data to prove pets are good for your health.

Prior to this information, studies were comprised of qualitative data that reinforced pets’ benefits on people. Now there is data that actually shows how pets have saved American dollars.

The Human Animal Bond Research Initiative (HABRI) found that pet ownership is responsible for saving $11.7 billion yearly. 132.8 million pet owners save $11.37 billion on physician office visits, while 20 million owners who walk their pets 5 times a week show lower obesity and save $419 million in healthcare.

Pets can now be identified as a proactive method of staying healthy and avoiding health issues, thus saving money on a personal, professional, governmental, and medical scale.

Learning to read can be intimidating for children. They often feel anxious about reading aloud for fear they might embarrass themselves by making mistakes. Many children have benefited from programs that are offering students a non-judgmental reading buddy…dogs!

A study conducted by the University of California in 2010 proved that students who read to animals for 15 to 20 minutes one time per week for eight weeks increased reading skills by 12% to 20%. Not only did these students improve their reading skills, but teachers reported that these students demonstrated more self-confidence and participated more in class.

While canine reading buddies may not be right for each school or every child, they have been a wonderful addition to many classrooms, libraries and bookstores.

Here is my adorable client with her mom. Daisy was not doing well at all. She is quite old and has times where she is not mobile. She was having accidents in the house and not eating. Last week when I came to the house to offer my regular Reiki, Massage, and essential oil treatment I was not sure how much I could help. I worked on her sore muscles and gave her Reiki and applied some essential oils. I thanked her for allowing me to help her. This was a video I received from her mom yesterday. I am so lucky that I get to witness the power of love and perseverance on a daily basis.
Feel free to connect with me if you would like to chat about your pets and their wellbeing.
