Food for thought

"Paying someone to clip is expensive"

"I want to buy my own clippers to save money".

I do always encourage clients to have their own clippers so if their horse needs clipped before I can make it to them, they can take something off to keep them comfortable in the mean time...

But why will a home done job never be quite the same as a professional?
Partly, our skill and experience, and partly, our investment! We spend fortunes on equipment that just aren't worthwhile for the average horse owner to purchase.

Take this lovely girl from today, here's everything I used to clip her with.

For the body i used a masterclip HD roamer with a medium blade.
This retails at around £300

She's very tickly around her tummy and needs a quiet smaller clipper for under there. A trimmer would take a bit too long for this and annoy her even tho it's quiet, so in comes the wahl supera at around £270, but the blades that come with them are a wee bit short for a coloured so there's a liveryman wide fine 2.4mm blade on it at approx £40/45.
I used this combo for her face too.

She gets her feather trimmed and tidied up, for this i used masterclip showmate2 with their 12mm guard on at approx £80.

She also has her legs blended at the knee and hocks, the showmate blade is a bit short for that on this colour horse so I used my liveryman novas at about £55 for that with both the regular and the extra 3mm blade for another £20 .

Paying someone £50/£60 doesn't seem quite so expensive now does it 🤣

Hi All,

Unfortunately I have fractured my T11 this morning and will not be clipping for the foreseeable.

CLIPPING SEASON IS MAYHEM 🥵

Stay strong to my fellow team members out there, we’ve got this 💪🏻

Who else loves a late being clipping sesh❓

Ft. Joey having a late night appointment ready for his clinic with Ros Canter next week.

Clipped using my amazing Harmony Plus clippers! I literally can’t fault them, super quiet, super low vibrations and are battery operated 🥰 I love them so much that I have FOUR pairs ❤️

What is your favourite Liveryman clipper? Let me know in the comments ⬇️

Hello All,

Firstly, THANK YOU so much for supporting my small business thus far❤️

This clipping season has been like no other 😴 I’m working 12/13 hour days, most days to try fit you in where I possibly can. At the minute you are looking at a 6 week wait, with very little remaining availability left in December. I will do my best to accommodate you, but please do not expect any last minute clips. I simply cannot accommodate you, there aren’t enough hours in the day and I also (would you believe it) need a day off!

As a result, response times will be slower than usual. Please bear with.

When contacting me for clipping please state the following:
-Amount to clip
-Type of clip
-Location
-Other services relevant ie: mane/tail tidies

And last but not least, please refrain from contacting me between the hours of 8pm and 6am. I will not respond and you will go to the back of the queue 🙌🏻

Hannah 🙂

‘The clip hasn’t lasted long at all!’

The change in daylight hours is what triggers the winter coat change and growth -
In the UK, horse’s coats tend to start changing from (roughly) early September and can continue to grow in reasonably quickly through to the winter solstice, at which point the coat growth will slow down.

You’ll find that clips between September-December don’t ’last as long’ as clips done in the New Year. This is because the winter coat is continually growing until the solstice.
Natives/cobs/heavies tend to be on the hairier side, so some may need clipped every 4 weeks (give or take) if you want to keep them neat.
Whereas warmblood/TB/finer types may only need clipped 2/3 times over the whole winter, as they tend to grow a finer coat.

This is a rough guide, not a set in stone rule!
Every horse is different, and there are a lot of factors to consider -
• Age
• Breed
• Coat type (thick/fine/dense/long…)
• Health (Cushing’s Disease, EMS etc)
• Weight
• Workload
• Routine (in/out)
• Or, just like people - they can be hairy/not so hairy, no matter what the breed of horse is!

How often do you clip your horse? Tell me their breed etc and why you chose to do it as often as you do!
