Food for thought
"Paying someone to clip is expensive"
"I want to buy my own clippers to save money".
I do always encourage clients to have their own clippers so if their horse needs clipped before I can make it to them, they can take something off to keep them comfortable in the mean time...
But why will a home done job never be quite the same as a professional?
Partly, our skill and experience, and partly, our investment! We spend fortunes on equipment that just aren't worthwhile for the average horse owner to purchase.
Take this lovely girl from today, here's everything I used to clip her with.
For the body i used a masterclip HD roamer with a medium blade.
This retails at around £300
She's very tickly around her tummy and needs a quiet smaller clipper for under there. A trimmer would take a bit too long for this and annoy her even tho it's quiet, so in comes the wahl supera at around £270, but the blades that come with them are a wee bit short for a coloured so there's a liveryman wide fine 2.4mm blade on it at approx £40/45.
I used this combo for her face too.
She gets her feather trimmed and tidied up, for this i used masterclip showmate2 with their 12mm guard on at approx £80.
She also has her legs blended at the knee and hocks, the showmate blade is a bit short for that on this colour horse so I used my liveryman novas at about £55 for that with both the regular and the extra 3mm blade for another £20 .
Paying someone £50/£60 doesn't seem quite so expensive now does it 🤣
