❌Just a reminder to all clients- I have had a few horses this season now that are unacceptably filthy and have even been presented to me with muddy coats. Going forward, to any person that presents me with a horse that has not been THOROUGHLY bathed and DRY upon my arrival I will not be clipping your horse that day or in the future, you will also be charged a call out fee for wasting my time. Absolutely no exceptions. ❌
❌My dirty horse fee will also be increasing to £45- the cost of a new set of blades! This on top your clip! ❌

🧼Bathing prior to clipping is essential for finish, blade longevity and the comfort of your horse 🧼
To wash or not to wash prior to clipping is a topic we see debated every winter, the common theme being not wanting to wash because of the cold, not having a hot wash and solarium set up etc. but also not being prepared for what happens when you clip a dirty coat
❌ Blades may not last an entire clip
❌Blades may over heat and need to be constantly cleared of hair
❌ Machines may over heat due to excess strain
How to prepare the coat for clipping ⬇️
📍Wash your horse using a scrubby brush ensuring to get down to the skin (this is where the blades clip after all)
📍Rinse your horse thoroughly - product left in the coat will also do harm to your blades
📍Allow your horse 24 hours to completely dry and brush through the coat before clipping
❌Avoid coat oils and sprays prior to clipping these clog up your blades and do not make it easier for your clippers and are not used in place of bathing
❌Never clip a wet horse 🤯
❌Just running a hose over the horse is not washing
🚿If you cannot wash for what ever reason grooming can be done in its place in the lead up to clipping. A good groom using a variety of brushes to get through the coat. And hot clothing for a week in the run up to clipping to draw the grease out of the coat. This is not as effective as bathing but will help in a pinch🚿
Also remember you can spot wash ie if you’re only doing a Bib only wash the area you plan on clipping, with a bucket and sponge if necessary. ✅

I am however, currently not willing to clip anything sharp, tricky or requires me to bend down for long periods , due to my knee not being fully healed.

After a cancellation this weekend , I managed to squeeze in some time to clip my own pony !
Meet Tulane! He’s sporting a full clip with blended legs - a first for him with a fully clipped out head and clipped legs.
Doesn’t he look great considering he last raced at the end of October?! Some muscle and top line to build on, but he’s currently having a quiet time to let his body recover from racing!

🌟UPDATE FOR 2023🌟
On reflection of 2022, my ability and the current economic climate , there will be a slight increase in my prices for this year.
❌Due to consistent late payers, I am no longer accepting payments via BACS ❌
I really don’t have time to be chasing payments, I usually only accept bank transfers prior to clipping, but perhaps I’ve been a bit too kind lately. Sadly I have bills to pay and I can’t afford to clip for free.
Any outstanding payments will need to be made TODAY or 1) you will be named and shamed 2) you will need to find yourself another clipper. I’m not bending over backwards to help people anymore.

Why do I always get lines clipping a grey horse? 🤔 Potential reasons why... 🔺You are using the incorrect blades on your horse. 🔺Your horse is greasy/dirty. 🔺Your blades are dull/blunt. ❤️ How to avoid this and achieve a line free finish on your horse (grey or not!) 👇🏻 🔻Choose the correct blade for your horse and the thickness of their coat- take into account the work you are doing and if your horse has any medical issues. 🌟TOP TIP- I always clip grey horses on a medium blade. Pink skinned horses are quite sensitive and the medium blade is a little bit more forgiving. You don’t want the skinned rabbit look ❌ 🔻With every line you clip, overlap the next line. If you are still leaving a few hairs/line use the clippers in a cross cross direction. 👊🏻 DON’T forget to clean off your blades and oil every 5-10 minutes! 🔻IMPORTANT- A clean horse makes for a better finish. Ensure your horse is squeaky clean by giving them a good bath! 🧼 (*elbow grease required*💪🏻) Greasy/dirty horses will blunt your blades quicker (expensive!💷) and put unnecessary strain on your clippers! (Also expensive if broken!💰) We can appreciate not everyone has super duper washing facilities, so make sure you give them a through groom for a minimum of 30 minutes! (Get right in there!!) 💪🏻 🔻Ensure your blades are sharp before you start. Even brand new blades will need sharpening before use! Check out your local blade sharpening companies and support a small business! 💕 🌟TOP TIP - Once I have finish clipping, I’m like to give the horse a good hot cloth (you can add whatever solution you prefer!) , this helps lift any remaining bits of grease, dirt and loose hair! Never skip leg day ✂️ Clipping legs is not just for aesthetics. Leg clipping can help with common ailments such as mud fever, mallanders and mites. Taking the hair off allows you to treat the area more directly with creams, washes and medications. It allows you to see the conditions more clearly, so you can treat accordingly. You don’t always have to take the whole leg off, you can trim off the feathers with scissors , clip down the back of the leg, down the fetlock and pastern, or you can go all fancy with a reverse leg blend! There is no right and wrong. Only what suits you and your horse the best. If you’re not sure what would be best for your horse, what to go for or how to do it, don’t be afraid to ask your vet or professional clipper, we would be happy to help and advise.
