Behavior Modification takes time- whether we are talking going to the gym as something we do 5 times a week and making it a 'habit', or whether we are talking about changing your dogs emotional response to something.
Often your dog has rehearsed this for a while, and is really good at the undesired behavior you wish would 'just go away'.

It is tempting to reach for 'quick fixes' to these behaviors.
I truly understand.

Thats why it's tempting to sign up for plastic surgery, do a crash or fad diet rather than embark on a lifestyle upheaval commitment of diet and exercise!
Not many of us want to do it the hard way- and we want results 'now'!

But a lot of the 'quick fixes', that seem to work at first, are not always what they seem. There are things that affect the dog deeply. And it can often take time, maturity, the 'right' (or wrong) environment or releasing stimuli (and many other factors) that will show us the long term affect of some of these 'quick fixes'.

We have often not just suppressed the behavior (which is why they seem to work so fast- super attractive for us in society today!), but we frequently have fallout to deal with.
And often, it is not good. Often, it is very dangerous.

Sometimes quick fixes are too good to be true.

Just like 'getting fit and leading a healthier life', canine behavior change takes time, effort and commitment to working with your dog.
And both of those things are often achieved with a qualified trainer on a carefully laid out, personalized plan.
Your dogs behavior is as individual as you are!
Sometimes you can achieve what you are wanting with consistent use of short sessions and quickly, just like 8 minute abs! But you need the whole plan to achieve goals- 8 minute abs wont work if you are consuming 5 chocolate sheet cakes a day...

So , just like the grapefruit diet won't lead to longterm health and wellness, using aversive tools probably won't lead to longterm mental or behavioral wellness with your dog.

Choose carefully.

Mr. Argus at almost 12 weeks old is getting introduced to the sound of a clicker!

Here we are charging the marker! What does that mean?

It means we are associating the noise of the “click” with something yummy!

Eventually this noise with tell Argus that whatever he did at that moment in time was a good thing and that we liked it! It is the same pitch every time so it helps dogs understand a bit better! He hears the noise, he knows he did something correct and so he gets rewarded for it!

Right now he’s slowly starting to understand what it means! A few more sessions and he will have it!🖤

Hello everyone! We need your help finding this lovely girl a home that fits her needs!

I have been working with Miss Stella for about 6 weeks now and she has improved in her training immensely but needs a lot of time that her current owners just can’t give her. We have all agreed that finding her a home that is more active and can give her the training time she needs to understand this world will help her flourish into an amazing companion!

Meet Stella!

Hi! My name is Stella, I am a 1.5 yo Kelpie. Recently I moved from a 50 acre farm with my 4 brothers and sisters to a small house. All of my friends left with their moms and without them I need a more active lifestyle that will help me understand how to be a dog! I love to run, learn, explore, and play games. I love my person once I know who that is and I look to them for confidence!

What I need:
- a loving home that will go slow with me

- slow introductions to dogs, I am great once I have met them I just don’t know how to introduce myself. Maybe an older brother or sister to live with will show me how to do it correctly so I don’t scare dogs away!

- I probably shouldn’t live with cats right now as I’ve only met a few and I’m not sure what to do with them so I try to chase them! Once I understand what they are I’m sure I’ll be fine!

-I am nervous about what this world has to offer so my first reaction isn’t always the best reaction, I need a confident handler that will show me what is okay and what isn’t. I need someone to think for me😁

- I am reactive to strangers at first because they’re scary. Once I know they aren’t scary I am okay!

- I need a job! Maybe sports would be fun to do! I do love running and jumping over things so maybe I could try agility soon!

I was bought during covid and I just wasn’t able to see this world for the beautiful, fun place it can be. I need someone to show me it’s okay and to teach me how to play and have a good time!

I am:
-UTD on all my shots
-Microchipped
-Crate trained
-House trained
-travel good in cars

Please call or text us at (860) 383-9792 if you have any question about Stella or you or someone you know fits the bill for this lovely lady. Share this post so we can find her the perfect home!
