HALO Havanese Angel League for Rescue Formed in 2002 - Registered non-profit dedicated to the survival and care of Havanese dogs Our goal is to save one Havanese at a time.

HALO is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to the survival and care of Havanese dogs. Since we were formed in 2002, we have rescued 1400 Havanese. Most of our rescues are from puppy mills with a small number coming from animal shelters or owner surrenders. Many of the mill dogs we rescue are about to be euthanized because they are no longer considered "profitable" by the puppy mill – a

7-month old puppy is too old to sell at a pet store; a 9-year old female is no longer producing large enough litters; or there are health issues that would cost money to treat. As long as there is a foster home available, we rescue every single Havanese we can. We ensure they receive any medical treatment necessary and we carefully choose adopters based on the best fit for each individual Havanese. Until they are adopted, no matter how long that takes, our fosters help them adjust to a new life of freedom. We are determined that the life they lead after rescue will be a safe, healthy and happy one. The resilience of this breed and their ability, no matter their age, to move beyond the horrors of life in a mill to become loving, happy family pets is truly amazing. Our work will continue until laws are changed to ban puppy mills throughout the country.

AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION:
Meet Gracie – A Quiet Soul Looking for Her Forever Home
Age: 5 years old (DOB: 06/28/2019)
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Gracie is a gentle, intelligent, and observant pup who has made incredible strides since entering foster care. At 5 years old, she has a calm and thoughtful demeanor, preferring the quiet comforts of a cozy dog bed and the companionship of other dogs over the hustle and bustle of busy life. She’s not the type to rush into things — Gracie takes her time to warm up, but once she trusts you, her subtle affection and quiet presence are a true gift.
Gracie is still building confidence around people. She may not seek out affection often, but she allows slow and gentle pets and is learning that being loved feels pretty good. Loud, fast-moving children may be overwhelming for her, so she would do best in an adult-only or quiet home.
Gracie is crate-trained and sleeps peacefully at night in a room with the resident dogs. She’s doing well with potty training as long as she's kept on a consistent 2–3 hour schedule. While she is still getting comfortable with her harness and isn’t leash-trained yet, she’s making slow progress and will need a patient adopter to continue this work.
Gracie doesn’t jump on furniture but has shown curiosity about the couch. She prefers to nap in dog beds, chew on toys by herself, and quietly explore the backyard with her dog buddies. She’s clever too — she once even figured out how to open her crate door with her nose!
Gracie may not be the kind of dog who runs to greet you at the door, but if you’re someone who finds beauty in watching a shy dog learn to trust, she could be the one for you. With another pup to lead the way, a consistent routine, and plenty of gentle encouragement, Gracie will continue to blossom into the dog she’s meant to be.
Gracie is up-to-date on all medical, spayed, has had a dental and is microchipped. Her adoption fee is $450 and her adoption will take place in her foster home in Columbus, Ohio.
If you are interested in this beautiful little girl, please go to rescuedhavanese.org/adoption for more information.

She loves doing zoomies and will thrive in a home with a securely fenced yard. She must have another dog in her home. She would love a playful dog to be her buddy, and she needs a dog who will enjoy cuddling with her. Clover walks well on a leash and is making great progress with potty training in her foster home.

UPDATE 01/18/25 - ADOPTED !
Zoey is a sweet, gentle soul with a personality that will melt your heart. She’s a “girl’s girl” through and through, forming strong bonds with the women in her life. She adores her foster mom and her canine sister but tends to keep her distance from male dogs and humans. Zoey’s loyalty and affection shine through in her loving stares, countless kisses, and her ability to make you feel like you’re her whole world.
Personality & Behavior
• Affectionate & Loving: Zoey thrives on pets, snuggles, and quality time with her person. She loves to curl up beside you on the couch or lie on a cozy rug nearby, often gazing lovingly into your eyes.
• Smart & Obedient: Zoey is a star when it comes to commands! She sits, comes, and walks on command and always has a wagging tail and a doggy smile to share.
• Playful Companion: While she doesn’t show interest in toys, she adores playing with her foster sister and enjoys running up ramps or lounging on soft surfaces.
Daily Life with Zoey
• Sleeping Arrangements: Zoey loves to start the night beside her foster mom and moves to the foot of the bed as she sleeps.
• Potty Routine: She’s great about going outside regularly and will use a potty pad if needed.
• Harness & Leash: Zoey is comfortable wearing a harness and walks beautifully on a leash.
• Favorite Spots: Zoey has a special fondness for rugs and enjoys finding her own little cozy corner when she’s not by your side.
Things to Know

• Best Fit for Her: Zoey would do wonderfully in a quiet, patient home with a female adopter or a family that includes a calm, friendly female dog.
Endearing Qualities
Zoey’s irresistible charm lies in her unwavering loyalty, soulful eyes, and her “doggy-style” smiles and laughs. Despite her past in a mill, she exudes a positive, loving energy that inspires everyone who meets her. She’s not just a pet—she’s a best friend waiting to find her perfect match.
If you’re looking for a sweet, smart, and loving companion to brighten your life, Zoey might just be the one for you!

Opportunity to bid on - Rare First Edition. Hardcover. Cathryn Michon, Author!
Find it under "books'' here https://new.biddingowl.com/items?QueryAuctionId=d03789b2-16ff-49da-ad29-8a01847accaa&QueryCategory=Books
Signed Bookplate by Author, and Bruce Cameron (author, columnist and humorist known for "A Dog’s Purpose") and Tucker the Dog. First edition sold out on first day.
Losing one’s dog is one of the most difficult experiences we go through and it’s hard to find solace. However, the profound, four-legged narrator of "I’m Still Here" has nothing but good news for humans. The free verse is equally rhapsodic about the eternal nature of our souls and the amazing sound of crinkly wrappers that means cheese is about to be sliced. This very good dog proclaims that love never dies, that we will meet again, and that if you ever doubted that humans are magnificent creatures, look no further than the humble ball. There is nothing to fear, because it is this dog’s purpose to pull you (like a bad dog who doesn’t know how to do “leash”) toward joy, and to remind you to relish all the naps and treats life has to offer.

UPDATE - 11/09/24 Adopted !
Hi, I’m Taffy! I bet it was my adorable face that made you stop and look at me. Yes, I'm very cute but there is more to me than beauty. I am a total love-bug! Let me tell you more about myself.
I’m a 5-year-old Havanese, and I’ve been through a lot, but now I’m ready to find my forever family. I used to live in a puppy mill, but those days are behind me, and I’m learning what it’s like to be loved and cared for. I love attention – if you pet me, I’ll be the happiest dog in the world! Sitting on the couch next to you, getting all the love and cuddles, is my favorite thing .Seriously, if there’s a lap or a cozy spot by your side, I’m there!
I’m still learning this whole “leash walking” thing, but I’m getting the hang of it. Sometimes, I sometimes like to carry a toy around with me just for fun—oh, and I may have a slight obsession with socks and dish towels. What can I say? They’re irresistible!
At night, I’m happy to sleep in a crate, but if you let me, I’d much rather snuggle up on the bed with you. I’m still working on my potty training, and I’m getting better every day – though I have to admit, I’m not a fan of going out in the rain!
There are a few things that make me nervous, like loud noises. Vacuums, thunderstorms, and hair dryers make me shake, so I'll need a calm and patient home that can make me feel safe and loved.
I’m a sweet girl who just wants to be loved. If you’re looking for a loyal companion who will love you with all her heart, I think we’d be perfect together! Could you be my forever family?
If you’re ready to welcome Taffy into your family, head over to rescuedhavanese.org/adoption to fill out an adoption application! Her adoption fee is $450, and she’s up-to-date on all her medical care. I am being fostered in Vermilion, Ohio.

Odie thrives on love and affection and can't get enough of being held close. Whether it's curling up next to you on the couch or snuggling in your lap, Odie is always eager to be by your side. One of his favorite moments is spent cozying up with his foster dad during TV time, soaking up all the cuddles he can get.

Odie is a social butterfly who craves attention. He's quick to roll over on his back for belly rubs and scratches and will bark happily when the teenage boys in his foster home arrive, eager for a game of fetch or some shared snacks with his fur-siblings. UPDATE 6/30/24 - ADOPTED !
I'm Pascal, an irresistibly cute 6-month-old Havanese puppy with a heart full of love and a playful spirit. I'm a professional snuggler and expert in petting sessions, and I adore being around people. Wherever my foster family goes, you can bet I'll be right there, wagging my tail and spreading joy.

My favorite toy is my squeaky Lambchop, and I'm getting pretty good at fetching it. I'm still learning the ropes of retrieving, but I'm a quick learner. At night, you'll find me curled up in bed with my foster mom, though I also enjoy my cozy dog beds.
