Today is Pet Fire Safety Day!
Every year, over 500,000 pets are affected by house fires in the U.S., and tragically, an estimated 40,000 to 150,000 pets die due to fire and smoke inhalation. While many of these incidents are preventable, awareness and preparation are key.
Here are essential fire safety tips for pet owners:
🐾 Pet-Proof Your Home
• Keep items like batteries, phone chargers, and electrical cords out of reach—especially if your pet is a known chewer.
• Consider kenneling your dog while you're away if they have a history of chewing.
• Never leave candles, incense, space heaters, or other heat sources unattended.
• Do not leave food on stovetops or counters—it may entice pets to jump up, potentially knocking k***s or igniting surfaces.
🐾 Plan Ahead for Emergencies
• Place a pet rescue alert sticker on your doors or windows to notify emergency responders that pets are inside.
• Make sure your pets are microchipped and have updated ID tags.
• Regularly check and maintain smoke detectors and fire extinguishers.
• Create an evacuation plan that includes your animals—and practice it.
Our pets depend on us not just for love but for their safety. Taking these extra steps could save their lives. 🐶🐱🔥
