A reminder to me not to do random things! Even with the best intentions.

The poll is what is called the "follow me button" in Horse Speak. It is where the mother nuzzles the foal to ask him to follow her. She does this with great care and intimacy. It is also where we put pressure with halter or bridle. I hope we are as loving as the mother horse.

...and when the protector accepts protection.

This is a follow on from my last post, where Harry told me he was still protector of his herd. This position is important to him.

He is also a teacher and has in the last year been full on teaching Dandy horse manners. It has been hard work, 24/7.

Recap: Harry had walked along the fence line on my left side and had gone into the Big Paddock.

Who's the protector here?

It was the day after a sleepless night. I was too tired to do anything with the herd, but not willing to 'waste' a Sunday.

I thought it a good idea to practice walking from marker to marker, stopping and breathing each one. Then gathering up my energy and walking to the next marker.

When I had done the round of eight markers, I sat down on the tyre in the centre.

Dandy and i are going from strength to strength.

It is truly wonderful to be able to go out into the paddock, interact with him and not be anxious or afraid.

And what is even more wonderful is that he wants me to do the same things with him as with the others. 🧡

I was certainly told!

Horses follow a certain protocol when greeting and like to maintain their boundaries. Often, we humans forget and appear rude to them.
