The new Siftomatic doe feeders arrived which means... I had to switch out the 2 smaller buck feeders id put on the breeder cages. And these feeders are bigger than our 8+ year old pet lodge feeders.
And with that said, the only thing missing from the 2nd buck cage now, is attatching the door and latches.
Oz is waiting eagerly for his date with Madhuri on October 11th 🥰

I got carried away yesterday and made like 5 carriers 😅
3 small, 2 medium, and 1 3-hole that... didn't come out to my expectation and I will be remaking it. Several times probably.
I have 2 weeks to make 12 more... 12. More.
And thats only if our coturnix quail hatch at 50%
Theres currently 130 eggs in the incubator, including 7 special celedons that mama brought home.

I put Anjali in with Ozzy this morning,
Now we wait.
Kits will more than likely be broken agouti and broken black.
Anjali has black, blue, lynx and castor in her background, but Ozzy is agouti (castor is also agouti on Rex) and I have no idea what colours he carries because he was not from a breeder.
The calculator is called Omni and I have no idea how accurate it is.
Anjali and Madhuri came from a litter of 8 so, my hopes are high we get at least 4 this first litter.
The perfect outcome for this litter? A black buck that can be linebred to Anjali and Madhuri to produce some rex coated kits.

I *attempted* to pose the rabbits so I could update their photos on Family Gem.
It did not go well.
I have never posed rabbits before, only watched videos from other breeders.
The rabbits have never been posed and acted like I was gonna murk them🥴
Madhuri is blowing her coat and it is DARK.
Anjali does not like to be handled, and insisted on sitting upright which is not how rex are supposed to be posed but oh well.
Oz wasn't sure what was happening.
Their eyes are covered in an attempt to keep them calm and from moving foward...that did not work.
Next time I'm putting them in the carrier so they can sit calmly while I take photos... they are not handled enough to warrant posing in-hand.
I have not handled them enough, but I will be attempting to handle their kits every evening.
That brings us to another question.
Are they big enough to breed?
Oz is roughly 2 months older but they are close to the same size now than they were in July.
We are still planning to test pair Ozzy and Anjali on September 21st and then pair him with Madhuri on October 10th.

Madhuri escaped sometime early this morning by kicking her feeder out and jumping through the narrow slot... she was detained around 5pm. All the feeders have zipties for now, cause I'm ordering some wire ties and when I say I am gonna forcibly merge these feeders to the cage I mean I will!!

Anjali's definitely gonna need a nap after her sugar crash on this sweeeeet canteloupe!!
This is the first time the rabbits have been given fresh melon and this lady definitely enjoyed it the most.
*rabbits should only have fruit as a treat as most are too high in sugar for them.
The roosters got their own cantaloupe and peaches, they are just jeleous I won't sit and talk with them too😆

Everybody, meet:
Madhuri's Morningtown Ride (broken lynx)
Anjali's Celestial Tea (broken blue).
Oopsies Ozzy (broken agouti).
Madhuri and Anjali are sister standard Rex, while Ozzy is a new zealand mix.
Breedings start at the end of September with Anjali for October 22-24 babies.
Madhuri will be bred October 12/13 for November 11-13 babies.
More cage mats are being ordered this weekend for Ozzys cage and the sisters before I move him and Anjali permanently.
The sisters have had the past couple weeks to adapt to their new life together and even seperated will live side by side, with the nesting boxes on either side of the cage walls (the cage ozzy is currently in, is where Anjali will be going).

The absolute unit of a cage I thought of months ago is now a reality. 5 more to go, then we build the hutch❤️
This, is for our new rabbitry.
This cage is 4ftx3ftx2ft (120x90x60cm) and has a 3ftx15in(90x38cm) shelf.
I cried making this. The whole of the quail coven and rabbitry has been a massive undertaking, but I wouldn't have it any other way.
Heres to doing better for the animals that serve us.
