🇬🇧🌞 The heat wave is finally winding down! Starting tomorrow, things should feel a bit less toasty. Our donkeys are pros at adapting to the weather—just like Vida here, taking it easy and enjoy the sun (silly boy 🤭 he should chill in the shade but he loves to sunbath). 😌🫏

Just chill and enjoy the sun (without melting)! Be safe, keep cool and take it easy. 💛

🇬🇧🌾 León his fluffy transformation 🐴✨

León is starting to lose his baby fur! 👶🧥 When he was born, he had a soft, thick dark coat—just like a teddy bear. But look closely... under that fluff, the grey colour is starting to shine through. He is beginning to show the beautiful colours of his mum and dad! 🤎➡️🌫️

Did you know?
🐴 Donkey foals are born with just as much fur as adult donkeys—sometimes even fluffier!
🌬️ This baby coat is super important—it helps keep them warm and dry in their first few months of life.
🎨 But as they grow, their coat changes colour and texture. Around 3 to 6 months old, they shed that baby fluff and start developing their adult coat.
💡 It’s totally normal for a donkey to be born one colour and grow up to be a completely different shade!

León’s transformation is just beginning and we can't wait to see what he will look like as he grows! 💛🐾

🇬🇧🦴✨ Wilbur update! ✨🦴

Wilbur got his second chemical castration injection! 💉

You might be wondering — why two injections? The first shot starts to reduce testosterone levels, but it’s the second injection that ensures a more complete and lasting effect. After this dose, we can expect a steady reduction in testosterone, which helps with:

✅ Minimizing hormone-driven behaviors
✅ Reducing aggression or restlessness
✅ Supporting his overall well-being

We chose chemical castration for Wilbur because he is an older donkey and traditional surgery carried too many risks at his age. This method is non-invasive, low stress and reversible, making it the safest and kindest option for him. He’s doing just fine and enjoying a well-deserved snack! 🐴💚

🐾 New friends 🐾

At our rescue center, every donkey deserves not just safety, love and care but also connection. When a new rescue donkeys finishes their quarantine, we gently ease them into the herd — always with care, patience and a keen eye on what they need.

We match donkeys based on energy levels, age and temperament. First introductions are done safely on a lead, allowing them to sniff, observe and get a feel for each other. Only when everyone seems comfortable, we let them roam freely, encouraging natural, stress-free bonding.

Because donkeys aren’t meant to be alone — they need company. And while not every match works out, we always keep trying until we find the right friends. ❤️

✨ Yesterday’s meet-up was a success! Now Rita, Rupert and Hope share a paddock together. These three sweet, older souls are calm, gentle and full of quiet joy — a perfect match in energy and spirit. 🥰 Look at them 🥰♥️🙏

🇬🇧🌟 A big step for Antonella & León! 🫏❤️

We’re so happy to share that our lovely mum Antonella and her sweet baby León have moved into their very own paddock! 🏡💫 Thanks to the generous donation from the LA CALA DE MIJAS LIONS CLUB and the amazing hard work of our maintenance crew, their new space is ready—and they’re absolutely loving it!

Now, they’re right next to the boys and a little more in the heart of donkey life here. León is already super curious about his neighbours 👀, but don’t worry—he and his mum still have their own safe space to settle in at their own pace.

Visitors can now come a bit closer too! While cuddles aren’t on the cards just yet (they’re still adjusting to donkeys and people), this is a beautiful next step. 🐾
